The childminder implements a good range of policies and procedures, which helps to underpin her practice. She uses these well and supervises children to help keep them safe. She has a secure knowledge of child protection issues and understands what to do if she has a concern. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder obtains relevant information from parents about their children, to help her meet their care needs. Feedback from parents expresses the high regard they have for the childminder. She evaluates her practice to identify her strengths and what aspects to develop further. The childminder continues to make improvements to her provision and raise standards for children. For example, she has created a treasure basket which provides children with opportunities to explore and develop their sensory skills.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans a variety of activities and learning experiences for children. She joins in with the children's play to support and extend their learning. For example, when children are not sure how to play a game the childminder shows them what to do. Children gain confidence to join in and try to learn new things. The childminder helps children to develop their early language skills well. For example, she uses music and rhymes to help them learn new words and sounds. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively to identify any gaps in their learning and takes appropriate action to help them catch up.

p.3

The childminder provides an environment where children feel welcomed, relaxed and valued. She has a calm, friendly approach that supports children's emotional well-being positively. Children visit a variety of different playgroups where they have the opportunity to play alongside other children, which helps them to develop their social skills. The childminder teaches children how to manage simple tasks, such as tidying up resources and taking their plate into the kitchen after eating. Children learn to manage basic self- care skills and about staying healthy. For example, they learn to wash their hands, play outdoors daily and eat healthy snacks.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They show a good level of interest and use resources purposefully. Children listen well, follow simple instructions and concentrate for extended periods. They are confident and independent learners. Children gain the skills they need in readiness for the next stage in their learning and eventual move to school.
