This provision is good

 The childminder fully understands her legal responsibilities, which helps her to promote children's safety, well-being and learning effectively.  The childminder is friendly and caring. She builds positive relationships with children and their families. Children are happy and settled. Parents comment that their children are comfortable in her care and enjoy attending.  The childminder's home is bright and stimulating. Children have access to a range of resources, indoors and outside. They are motivated to play, explore and learn.  Children make good progress in their development. The childminder is a good teacher. She provides activities that help to meet children's individual learning needs.  Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder shares a good two-way flow of information about children's care and learning with parents. Children benefit from good continuity between the setting and home.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always share detailed information about children's development with other providers. Children do not yet benefit from the best continuity in their learning between the setting and other settings they attend.  The childminder does not sharply focus her professional development towards further enhancing the quality of teaching. Some children do not yet progress at the highest level. This specifically refers to very young children.  The childminder does not yet reflect as deeply as possible on the overall quality of the setting and ambitiously consider ways to raise the standard to outstanding.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase partnership working with other providers and share more information about children's development to help promote the best continuity between the setting and other settings children attend  enhance professional development and sharply focus on further enhancing the quality of teaching to help extend children's learning to the highest level, especially very young children  reflect more carefully on the overall quality of the setting and ambitiously consider ways to raise the standard as far as possible.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed teaching practice and conducted a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding and held discussions with the childminder.  The inspector looked at relevant documents, records and policies.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder.  The inspector sought the views of children from discussions and parents from the written evidence provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Since the last inspection, the childminder has been liaising closely with the local authority and has worked hard to improve. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is well organised. She successfully implements a range of records and documents that helps to support her practice. The childminder's home is clean and secure. She conducts safety checks daily to minimise any hazards and help prevent accidents. The childminder can recognise possible signs and symptoms of child abuse or neglect and knows how to respond appropriately to any concerns. The childminder conducts research, networks with other childminders and accesses training to help keep some of her knowledge up to date, such as safeguarding and first aid. This has a positive impact on the quality of care she provides, overall.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder routinely observes and assesses children's learning. She makes use of the information she obtains to help promote their good progress. Children enthusiastically engage in role play. For example, when children pretend they are shopkeepers or start caring for baby dolls the childminder adds further resources to their play. She talks to them and shows them how they can use different props to help extend their games. This helps to develop their imaginative skills. The childminder oversees the overall progress children make. She is very knowledgeable about identifying and supporting children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. This helps to ensure no child falls behind.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder sensitively meets children's care needs. She encourages them to exercise and adopt good hygiene routines. Children enjoy riding around on wheeled vehicles and using the slide outside. They also competently wash their hands before meals and clean their faces when they get dirty. Children are developing good physical skills. The childminder teaches older children about the benefits of eating well and keeping themselves safe. For example, they take part in activities that require them to create a lunchbox out of card. The childminder helps them to make healthy choices from pictures of food. She also shows them how to use scissors carefully.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children acquire all the skills they will need for the move on to school. All children are inquisitive. Older children think deeply and can become fully absorbed in their learning. Children are confident and independent. They are kind and considerate. They include others in their play and like to help the childminder with small tasks. Children develop good communication skills and they listen to and follow instructions. They can express their ideas and share their thoughts in different ways. Older children can also concentrate and maintain attention for extended periods. Children are developing skills in literacy. They draw pictures and give meaning to the marks they make. Older children begin to identify the letters in their name and experiment with writing.
