This provision is good
Children enjoy the time they spend with the childminder. She provides a safe and welcoming environment where children settle quickly and feel secure. Children behave well, they learn to take turns and share equipment from an early age. The childminder provides a broad range of learning experiences, which she matches to children's interests and learning priorities. Children make good progress. The childminder monitors children's development effectively, which helps her to identify and address gaps in their learning. Partnerships with parents and other professionals are good, which enables the childminder to meet children's individual needs well. Parents comment positively on the childminder's communication with them, and how well their children progress. The childminder values the views of parents, children and other early years professionals to help her evaluate her provision. She continues to make improvements
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not use a full range of methods to encourage younger children to talk about people and things that are not present. The childminder is not always successful in the ways she encourages children's interest in music and songs. At times, younger children are more interested in watching the images on a screen rather than listening and joining in.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's activities, and the childminder interacting with them. The inspector talked to the childminder about children's activities and their progress. The inspector looked at a sample of documents, which included the childminder's safeguarding policies, accident and medication records, and children's progress records. The inspector took account of parents' views from letters they had written, and the childminder's satisfaction surveys.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child. She keeps her knowledge up to date by completing training. The childminder includes parents in her assessment of children's learning and development. Parents are pleased with their children's progress, saying that they have come on in 'leaps and bounds' since attending. The childminder is keen to continue to develop her professional role. She is proactive in finding out information to extend her knowledge about caring for children, which helps her to support their development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is clear about how children learn through play and exploration. Young children enjoy many sensory activities with various materials, such as dry cereals. They find out about textures using their hands, mouths and feet. The childminder supports their learning well. For example, she encourages them to use various tools to transfer the cereal. She describes what they are doing, using words, such as 'squash' and 'squeeze'. The childminder knows the children well as individuals and asks appropriate questions to help them think and solve problems. The childminder makes good use of the local community to provide real-life experiences and learning opportunities. For example, children regularly meet other people, learn about nature and develop their understanding of the world around them.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder requests important information from parents when children start to attend, to help her make children feel secure. For example, she discusses and respects babies' individual sleeping and eating patterns. The childminder gets to know what children can do so that she can start planning for their progress straight away. The childminder praises children regularly, helping to boost their self-esteem. She teaches children about staying safe. For example, children learn to be aware of traffic, to cross roads safely, and the importance of being in the childminder's sight. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise every day and learn good routines for staying healthy.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn important skills that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning and for starting school. For example, they develop increasing confidence and build trusting relationships. Children practise practical tasks that make them more independent, such as managing their outdoor clothes and using the toilet without help. Children show an interest in sounds and letters, and learn to recognise familiar written words, including their name.
