This provision is good
The childminder uses her regular observations and assessments of children's development to effectively plan for their next steps in learning. The childminder also keeps up to date about children's changing interests. She uses this information to organise activities that spark children's curiosity. Children are supported to develop a good awareness of keeping themselves safe. For example, the childminder and her assistant provide age-appropriate explanations about why children's actions might be dangerous. Children respond positively when they are reminded not to run in case they fall over. Parents are complimentary about the childminder and the good progress their children have made. They state they have complete trust in the childminder and that their children feel safe and secure in her care. They also report that the childminder is accommodating to their needs and always professional.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder steps in too quickly during children's activities to redirect their learning. She does not always allow them sufficient time to persevere with tasks and work things out for themselves. The childminder does not maximise opportunities to regularly seek and review the views of parents and use this information to drive ongoing improvements.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living or working in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through the written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is well qualified and completes regular training. She understands the signs of abuse and who she must report any concerns to. The childminder keeps up to date with any changes to national and local procedures. She is also aware of the indicators that children could be at risk of being exposed to extreme ideas about right and wrong. The childminder undertakes effective risk assessments of her home and outings. She takes appropriate action to ensure that identified risks are minimised. This helps her to maintain the safety and well-being of children. Continuity of children's learning is promoted through the childminder's partnerships with other settings they attend.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children take part in activities that help them to develop the small muscles in their hands used for writing. For example, they practise controlled movements as they repeatedly pour water from a small container into a bucket. Children also begin to develop their understanding about capacity. They watch the water rise as they drop items into a bucket. They engage in a discussion with the childminder about the bucket being full and empty. Children enjoy listening to the childminder's assistant as he reads to them. They show good engagement as he skilfully draws them into a conversation about what they can see on each page. Children interact well with others as they learn to wait and then take their turn in speaking.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder finds out important information about children's backgrounds, personal needs and learning before they start. This helps her to specifically tailor her care and settle children quickly. Children demonstrate that they have formed a close bond with the childminder and her assistant. They learn about emotions and can identify when characters in a storybook are sad or happy. The childminder and her assistant successfully use books and discussions to help children learn about hygiene practice and what types of food are good for them. Children are well behaved. They are supported to understand what is and is not acceptable behaviour through consistent, gentle reminders. Children relish the positive praise provided by the childminder and her assistant for their achievements.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress. They show an interest in and take part in a wide range of play opportunities. They are successfully learning skills which help to prepare them well for their next stage of development and eventual move to school. Young children show good levels of independence as they put on their own sandals with minimal support. Children are able to make their needs known to the childminder and her assistant. They socialise with others on trips out and learn about similarities and differences between people.
