p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not always complete the required progress check for children aged between two and three years. In addition, he does not use the information from ongoing assessments to plan activities that support children to make good progress. The childminder does not plan a highly stimulating or challenging learning environment for children to take part in activities that capture and maintain their interest. The childminder does not work effectively with other settings children attend, to provide continuity in their learning or to target areas where they may need more support. The childminder does not evaluate his practice effectively to identify aspects that are not meeting the requirements or to raise the quality of the provision.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder has addressed the weaknesses from the last inspection. He has completed an approved paediatric first-aid qualification. Children are happy and settled in the childminder's care. They benefit from, and enjoy, the caring and trusting relationships they share with him. Parents are happy with the provision and are complimentary about the childminder's care. Children have some opportunities to learn about diversity and people from different backgrounds and cultures.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage the provider must:

Due Date
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
improve partnerships with other provisions that children attend, to develop a consistent approach to meeting children's learning needs, and work together to target any areas where they may need more support improve self-evaluation systems to identify when requirements are not being met and to identify areas for further improvement.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the interactions between children and the childminder as they engaged in activities in the outdoor learning environment. The inspector discussed the childminder's practice with him during appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views from verbal and written feedback. The inspector engaged with children at times during the inspection. The inspector looked at some of the childminder's documentation, including children's records, certificates of qualifications and some written policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The childminder is aware of the appropriate action to take if he has concerns about the welfare of a child in his care. He understands his responsibility to ensure children's safety inside the home and on outings. However, the childminder's assessment systems are not robust enough to support children's learning effectively. In addition, he does not evaluate his practice effectively to identify or target areas for improvement. The childminder forms suitable partnerships with parents and shares information with them about their children's care and learning needs. He does not work effectively with other settings that children attend. The childminder's assistant is currently not working with him. However the childminder understands his responsibility to ensure that she is fully updated of his policies and procedures on her return.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder observes children and builds a general picture of their capabilities, skills and interests. However, he does not use this information well to plan experiences that are sharply focused on what they need to learn next to help them make the best possible progress. Children have fun during activities, such as building sand castles and exploring with water, and they show an interest in the natural world. However, overall, the childminder does not offer a broad range of activities to stimulate or challenge children to a higher level. Older children display good communication skills. They engage in discussions and share their ideas as they play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder promotes children's good health and physical skills effectively. He provides children with regular opportunities to engage in outdoor activities and take part in physical play. For example, children enjoy playing in the childminder's garden and going on visits to the park. Children are growing in confidence and developing appropriate levels of independence. For example, they choose what they want to play with from the available resources. However, their progress is slightly hindered due to the lack of challenge presented in the learning environment and range of activities. Children behave well. They listen to the childminder's requests and respond well. They play cooperatively with each other and learn to share and take turns with resources.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children make steady progress and generally work within the range of development typical for their ages. They enjoy looking at books, listening to stories, drawing and practising making marks. Overall, children develop some basic skills they need for their future learning and school, but this is not as rapid and targeted as possible.
