This provision is good
The childminder plays alongside children, interacts with them well and extends their learning. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills very well. She uses descriptive and clear language and repeats words. She uses a variety of different questioning techniques to enhance their speech and broaden their vocabulary. Children develop their knowledge of number, size and colour through play. They demonstrate focused concentration as they sort and group different sized and coloured items and count these with the childminder. The childminder develops strong, caring relationships with children. She values children as individuals and is responsive to their needs. Children settle in quickly and become confident learners. Parents are extremely happy with the care their children receive. The childminder works closely with them to establish partnerships and promote a consistent approach. This

effectively supports children's emotional well-being.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to enhance younger children's sensory exploration and investigation with different materials and textures. The childminder does not yet sharply focus her professional development on raising the quality of teaching to further enhance learning experiences for children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend opportunities for younger children to explore and investigate with a range of materials and textures reflect more precisely on the quality of teaching to identify how practice can be improved even further to help children to reach the highest level of learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of adults living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her knowledge and understanding of keeping children safe through ongoing training. She understands the signs that may indicate a child is at risk and is fully aware of her responsibilities to report any concerns. She has good procedures in place that help to promote children's safety and welfare effectively. She is committed to developing her practice. She seeks the views of parents, children and others and uses their comments and suggestions to make improvements. The childminder builds relationships with other settings that children attend to share information about their progress and to achieve continuity in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes observations and assessments of children's play and knows where each child is in relation to their learning. She keeps a close eye on their progress and is able to identify children requiring additional support quickly. The childminder helps extend children's play ideas successfully. For example, in response to children's interests in imaginative play using the toy kitchen and dolls, she ensures a wide range of toys and resources are easily accessible. Children enjoy games and puzzles which challenge their understanding of letters and sounds. They excitedly explore books with the childminder and point to their favourite pictures. Children demonstrate a good understanding of the stories shared. For example, they animatedly communicate their emotions and feelings about certain characters and different parts of the story.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave extremely well. The childminder is a positive role model for children to follow and gives them plenty of praise to boost their self-esteem. Children have lots of opportunities to play outside and to develop their physical skills. They also learn how to behave in safe ways, for instance, handling resources with care. Children learn to value each other's similarities and differences. They learn about different cultures and family traditions. The childminder takes children to places of interest where they enjoy socialising with others. The childminder supports children's good health effectively. Children learn to take care of their own personal hygiene. For example, children remember why they need to wash their hands after a messy activity and before eating.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress in their learning and development from their individual starting points. The childminder provides a broad curriculum and builds on children's achievements to help children to make progress in all aspects of their learning. Children become engrossed in activities which stimulate their curiosity and promote good attitudes towards learning. Routines support the development of children's self-confidence and independence well. Children make friends, learn to work together and begin to take turns. These skills help to ensure that children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and for starting school.
