This provision is good

 The childminder is caring, friendly and welcoming. Children develop secure relationships with her and they settle well in her care. For example, they snuggle into her as they get tired and confidently ask for her help when they need her assistance with dressing.  Partnerships with parents are good. Parents speak highly of the childminder. The childminder works closely with families to support them with children's individual development and care needs.  Children benefit from a well-organised and well-resourced environment. They have opportunities to make their own choices about what they would like to play with. They are independent at carrying out tasks, such as tidying up the resources and washing their hands before mealtimes.  Children have high levels of self-esteem. They are confident and motivated to learn. For example, they enjoy using pictures and soft toys to tell stories, and sit for long periods

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, the childminder structures activities too precisely and children miss opportunities to develop their creative skills.  Parents are not fully involved in supporting the childminder to evaluate her service.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review the organisation of planned activities so that children have more opportunities to use their own ideas and develop their creativity and thinking skills  develop further procedures to involve parents in evaluating the service that is being provided.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder and reflected on the effectiveness of the activity.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation and children's records.  The inspector read written statements from parents and took into account their views.  The inspector had discussions with the childminder and children during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to identify and report any concerns that she has about children's safety. She has a good understanding of the importance of providing a safe environment for children and she helps them to learn how to keep themselves safe as they play. For example, she talks to them about different risks in the environment. The childminder evaluates her practice to make changes that will benefit the children. For instance, she has changed the layout of her garden to provide children with more space to play and explore. The childminder develops relationships with other professionals from the other settings that children attend, to share progress and to create a shared approach to learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder works with parents to gather relevant information about their children before they attend. She uses the information well to ensure that she is meeting the children's individual needs. For instance, she follows routines and supports parents with children's dietary requirements. The childminder carefully assesses children's progress to ensure that there are no gaps in their development. The childminder teaches children to be considerate of others. For instance, children think about what toys are safe to play with when younger children are close by. The childminder adapts her teaching and considers each child's capabilities. For example, she uses actions effectively to involve younger children in story time.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

All children behave well. They learn to take turns and share the resources. For instance, older children give younger children time to have a go to push toy cars down the ramp of the garage. The childminder uses her partnerships with other local childminders well, to provide the children with opportunities to be sociable with children of similar ages. For example, she attends groups and takes the children on regular outings. The childminder helps children to learn about equality and diversity. For instance, they take part in activities to celebrate festivals and cultural events.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points. They develop well in all areas of learning. Children gain a good mathematical awareness. They enjoy sorting shapes and posting them in the right holes. All children gain good communication and language skills. They listen and follow instructions well, and even the youngest children use sounds and words to communicate their needs with the childminder. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning and the eventual move to school.
