This provision is good

 Staff are organised very well and are quick to follow children's play ideas and interests. This helps children make links in their experiences and progress quickly to their next stages in learning.  Children of all age ranges are very confident and happy. They are busy during their time at nursery and enjoy exploring and investigating. Children are motivated to learn.  Partnerships with parents and other professionals are effective. Staff work together consistently with them to support children's needs, especially their emotional development.  The provider, who is also the manager, leads her team with dedication and commitment. She has clear systems to help her and the staff reflect, evaluate practice and plan for improvement. For example, she plans to improve the outdoor area to support boys' imaginative play even further.  Since the last inspection, the manager and staff have made good improvements which

support positive outcomes for children. For example, children have a wider variety of opportunities to be imaginative in their play, which helps them to express their ideas.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 During organised activities, staff do not consistently make enough use of opportunities to build on children's understanding of numbers and counting.  At times, staff complete simple everyday tasks for older children, which does not help them to develop their independence skills as well as they could.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make better use of organised learning opportunities to build on children's understanding of numbers and counting  provide children with more opportunities to complete everyday tasks independently, especially the older ones.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children playing with their chosen activities across all learning environments.  The inspector spoke to staff, parents and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the manager.  The inspector held a meeting with the manager about how she organises the setting and staff and monitors children's learning and development.  The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's records, staff suitability checks and policies.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The manager and staff are familiar with how to identify and report any concerns they have about children's safety and welfare. Staff ensure children are safe at all times. They complete regular checks of play areas to help minimise any potential hazards. The manager recruits new staff safely and all receive ongoing support. They regularly complete training to improve their skills and share their knowledge with other staff during staff meetings. This helps to build a consistent standard of teaching across the setting. The manager monitors children's progress effectively. She uses a variety of strategies to analyse their development, which helps her to seek additional support from other professionals quickly, if needed.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The manager and staff use effective methods to observe and record children's progress. They employ positive methods to support and extend children's learning. For example, staff in the baby room playfully challenge the youngest children to identify body parts, such as the nose, as they play with dolls. Staff support children to develop their language skills very well. They narrate children's play to help them make links between their actions and words. For example, staff use clear language, such as 'turn' and 'push', as children post cards through a letterbox. Children enjoy learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children form close bonds with staff, which helps them to feel secure and ready to learn. Staff are very attentive towards children's needs. For example, in the baby room, staff recognise when the younger children become tired and offer lunch a little earlier so children can sleep when they need to and be more comfortable. Children develop very successful physical skills. They are active throughout the day, and older children competently use a variety of equipment, such as tricycles and climbing frames. Babies eagerly crawl and roll inside and when in the garden. Staff encourage children to learn about the world and other people. For example, children enjoy pretend play in a French- style café and sing familiar songs in a different language, which also supports children who learn English as an additional language effectively. Children find out about how other people live. They complete topics about 'where we live', to help extend their

understanding about the similarities and differences between themselves and others.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and enjoy a range of activities across all areas of learning. Children in the baby room use their senses well to explore and investigate lights. Older children build on their investigative skills further, such as searching for bugs. They complete simple scientific experiments to mix water and oil to see which objects float and sink. Children develop a positive interest in using small tools to make marks, such as using pencils, which also supports very early handwriting. Older children build on their interest further and learn to sound out and draw letters of their name. Children develop essential skills to support their eventual move to school.
