This provision is good

 The quality of teaching and learning is strong and children are making consistently good progress. The childminder and her assistant know the children in their care very well indeed. Observations and assessments of the children's learning ensure their next steps in their learning journeys are accurately identified.  Young children are supported to learn to become independent and take care of their toys and the environment. They learn how to carefully handle books and enjoy helping to tidy away the toys in preparation for snack time.  The childminder and her assistant hold appropriate early years qualifications. Between them they have a wealth of experience of working with children and their families. The knowledge and experience they have gained positively enhances the quality of the service they provide.  The capacity for continuous improvement is good. The childminder places emphasis on providing a high quality service. She competently supports her assistant in her role to

help improve outcomes for children and their families.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder and her assistant have a good knowledge of current first-aid procedures and have attended a refresher course, they do not currently hold a full paediatric first-aid certificate.  At times, the childminder does not fully support children to explore and experiment with colours as they play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke with the childminder, her assistant and the children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities in the childminder's home and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's and her assistant's training certificates and evidence of the suitability of adults working on the premises.  The inspector took account of the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about safeguarding practice and procedures. She accesses safeguarding refresher training regularly and reads publications. The childminder guides and supports her assistant's practice to ensure she is fully informed about changes in legislation. The childminder is aware of her responsibilities in the event of a child protection concern. Although the childminder and her assistant have not got a first-aid qualification that fully meets requirements, they have updated their knowledge with online training. They have a good understanding of what to do in an emergency and are booked to attend the relevant training. The childminder has established good partnerships with parents and is aware of the benefits of working in partnership with other providers. Parents are very happy with the service. They describe the care as excellent and they especially appreciate the range

of outdoor activities, such as bug hunting.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans activities she knows the children will enjoy. Adult-led activities effectively incorporate their individual interests and provide the children with good levels of challenge. Children's communication and language skills are fully supported. The childminder and her assistant use a range of stimulating books and music that help children learn new, fun words. Children keenly participate in singing action rhymes and repeat words, such as 'chuff-chuff' and 'beep-beep', as they bob up and down pretending to be a train or a bus.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children often giggle as they play and are very happy in the care of the childminder and her assistant. A warm and sensitive approach is provided towards the children's individual needs. New children are helped to settle with one-to-one care. Children are learning to lead a healthy lifestyle. Children enjoy a wide variety of fresh fruit every day and spend good amounts of time outdoors. Children have opportunities to learn about where our food comes from through growing fruit and vegetables and collecting fresh eggs from the chickens that are kept near the garden. Children learn about the importance of keeping safe in the sun as they are involved in discussion about why they need to put on sun hats.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make strong progress in all areas of their development. Children develop good skills in readiness for their future learning as they move on to school. They are active learners who articulately and confidently make decisions for themselves. Children behave well and they are learning the difference between right and wrong.
