This provision is good
The childminder is well qualified. She has a good knowledge and understanding of how children learn. She responds well to children's individual needs. Children make good progress in their learning. They are confident, happy and settled in the childminder's care. Children form secure bonds and positive relationships with the childminder and her family. The childminder successfully shares information with other providers. Children's care and learning is consistent and complimented. Children behave well. The childminder uses effective strategies to promote positive behaviour and raise children's self-esteem. She helps children to develop their understanding of how to play well together. The childminder uses self-evaluation well to give her an accurate overview of the service she provides. This helps to identify further areas for development and assists her to build on the good practice already achieved.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully support parents to share information about what their children are achieving at home, to build on this further in her setting. The childminder does not always plan precisely enough for children's next steps in learning so that they make even better progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector observed and evaluated a learning activity with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of household members and looked at a range of documentation, including children's records. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. She took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her role and responsibility to safeguard children. She completes training to help keep up to date with current guidance and legislation. She understands the procedures to follow in the event of a concern about a child in her care. The childminder has a comprehensive set of policies and procedures in place to minimise risks to children when in the setting or on outings. The childminder ensures that her home is maintained to a good standard of safety and cleanliness. She carries out daily safety checks to ensure that all toys are fit for purpose.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children in her care well. She regularly checks children's individual progress to identify any gaps in their learning and development. The childminder makes learning fun. For example, children are fascinated as they explore a block of ice. They were focused as they tried to release the coloured fish from within. The childminder recognises when to let children play freely and when to sensitively intervene to extend their learning. For example, when children become frustrated as the ice was not melting quickly enough, she introduced extra resources, such as toy hammers to help break the ice. The childminder supports children's communication and language, and she engages them in meaningful conversations. For example, they discuss how water evaporates in hot weather.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder establishes good relationship with parents from the start. She keeps them well informed about their child's progress, achievements and care needs. The childminder supports children's independence successfully. They try really hard to put on their shoes for outdoor play. The childminder promotes children's health effectively. She provides home-cooked nutritious meals and snacks. Children are well supervised and have a growing understanding of how to keep themselves safe. For example, children use knives to cut fruit for snack.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress and are acquiring the skills required in preparation for school. Children make choices about what they want to do and develop a can-do attitude towards learning. They are confident, independent and show sustained levels of concentration. Children enjoy trying out new experiences. They are learning mathematical concepts, for example as the childminder incorporates, numbers, counting, shape and size into everyday activities. Early literacy skills are emerging. Children listen attentively to stories and enjoy giving meaning to the marks they make.
