This provision is good
The childminder and her assistant have a good knowledge of how children learn. They provide a wide range of learning opportunities and support children's interests. Children make good progress from their initial starting points. The childminder and her assistant are good role models for children. They have clear, age-appropriate boundaries and expectations in place. Children behave well. They know to share, be kind and use good manners. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's progress and how this could be extended at home. Parents comment that they are very happy with the care their children receive. The childminder is committed to continually developing her practice. She evaluates her setting regularly and identifies clear strengths and areas for improvement. She has maintained her good teaching and outcomes for all children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Sometimes, the childminder does not provide children with enough time to think and process their ideas and thoughts before she answers questions for them. At times, the childminder does not use assessment information to check on the progress of children, to precisely target teaching and ensure any gaps in learning are closing.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during a range of activities and assessed and discussed the impact activities have on children's learning. The inspector checked a sample of documentation, including children's learning records, safeguarding records and a selection of certificates and policies. The inspector spoke with the childminder, her assistant and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents and carers from written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good understanding of the procedures to follow if they have any concerns about a child's welfare. They supervise children well and assess and take measures to minimise risks to children's safety. The childminder monitors the quality of her assistant's teaching. They have regular meetings and one-to-one supervisions to maintain children's good outcomes. The childminder is experienced. She uses a wide range of methods to help support her professional development. For example, targeted child protection training has helped her develop a greater understanding of changes in safeguarding legislation. The childminder has established links with a wide range of professionals to help support consistency in children's care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes observations and assessments of children's achievements. She uses this information to plan activities linked to children's interests. Overall, the childminder supports children's language skills well. For example, she introduces and models new words, such as 'blast off' and 'ignition'. The childminder encourages children to be imaginative in their play. For example, children pretend to fly to the moon, rescue a bear and eat yogurt on the way. The childminder helps children test out their early design skills. For example, they build rockets and experiment with sound and vibration using plastic bottles. The childminder supports children to develop their senses. For example, children enjoy exploring different textures with their fingers. They have fun with sand, water and natural objects.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children show a strong sense of belonging in the setting. They have good levels of self- esteem and settle quickly. The childminder encourages children to be independent and learn new skills. Children concentrate well as they try to do things for themselves, such as putting on their shoes. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. They discuss different fruits and make healthy food choices. Children receive daily opportunities for fresh air and exercise. They go for walks into their environment and visit local places of interest, such as farms and parks. The childminder provides many opportunities for children to learn about the community around them. Children celebrate a range of festivals, such as Diwali and Chinese New Year.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are sociable, confident and well prepared for their future learning, including starting school. They have good opportunities to extend their understanding of mathematics. For example, they count, sort and match items as they play. Children enjoy listening to, and joining in, with stories and books. They practise their early writing skills and delight as they recognise letters from their names.
