This provision is good

 The provider has made good improvements since the last inspection. For example, the progress check for children aged between two and three years has been refined. Furthermore, staff have improved the information they gather about children's learning and development when they start at the nursery.  The experienced provider and manager are dedicated and enthusiastic. The staff team demonstrate good teamwork and share the vision of the management. Staff know the children and their families well and have them at the heart of everything they do.  Staff are well qualified and experienced. They promote children's learning well through play. On occasions, excellent teaching practice is achieved. This contributes to the good outcomes achieved by children.  Children behave very well. Staff focus strongly on building upon children's personal, social and emotional development. All children develop their self-esteem as they are

given lots of praise and encouragement for their good behaviour and achievements.  Staff keep parents well informed about their children's development and daily activities at the nursery. For example, staff provide daily feedback and share children's learning records regularly with the parents.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Systems to monitor the quality of teaching and evaluate staff practice are not yet fully embedded to ensure that teaching is consistently of a very high quality.  Staff do not always minimise interruptions to children's play and exploration.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 embed processes for the monitoring and evaluation of staff practice so that teaching is consistently of a high quality  minimise interruptions to children's play and exploration.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke with staff and children during the inspection.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the nursery manager.  The inspector held a meeting with the nursery manager and provider. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery.  The inspector spoke to a number of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The provider, manager and staff have a good understanding and knowledge to help them to recognise and report any child protection concerns. The provider constantly strives to provide a high-quality provision. She ensures that all parents, children and staff are fully involved in the evaluation of the nursery. The current development plan includes the relocation of the nursery to new premises. Additional funding is used effectively to ensure individual needs are met. Staff provide children with a hot meal at lunchtime. Furthermore, the nursery has purchased superhero resources to help to encourage children to play alongside their peers.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff know the children well and they use observations and assessments effectively to monitor children's good progress. Staff plan activities and help children achieve their next steps in learning. Staff have high expectations of what children can achieve, such as when a toddler recognises the numerals one to nine, staff add some subsequent numbers to challenge them further. Children enjoy activities that encourage them to explore and use their creativity. Pre-school children problem solve to make a brush out of some herb sprigs. Staff subtly join in with children's play and use questions to help children think. Staff working with babies show a genuine enthusiasm when singing and dancing. This sparks the babies' interest and they join in with songs and actions. They get excited when they see the next song prop appear and anticipate the rhyme.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The nursery has a calm and friendly feel and children are warmly welcomed by staff. Babies enjoy lots of cuddles and reassurance when they first start. Staff understand the unique individual needs of all children and this contributes to children's emotional security. Children enjoy freshly cooked, nutritious meals and they discuss the importance of drinking water to keep hydrated and the benefits of drinking milk to develop their bones. This helps children to learn how to be healthy. Staff closely supervise children as they access the outdoor play areas. Children take manageable risks in their play and they climb trees and safely negotiate a path as they ride on wheeled toys. The nursery is in the heart of the community. The provider is proactive in joining the nursery in with village activities. Recently the children have made a scarecrow to display outside for the village scarecrow festival. This helps children to gain a sense of community spirit.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning from their starting points, including those in receipt of funding. Children listen to books with interest and answer questions about the unfolding story. Babies demonstrate good mobility skills and they climb and slide on the equipment. Toddlers explore shaving foam and animals. They laugh as they high-five staff, splashing the foam. Older children eagerly explore letters and the sounds they make. They recognise letters of the alphabet in print and link those letters to their names. Children develop the key skills for the next stage in their learning and school.
