This provision is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She provides a wide range of resources and activities, and children are confident to explore. They make good progress from their initial starting points. The childminder is a good role model. She teaches children her expectations for behaviour in the setting. Children know to be kind and share. They are tolerant, well- mannered and polite. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder regularly shares information on children's learning and how this can be extended at home. Parents praise the quality of care and support their children receive. The childminder has made significant progress since her previous inspection. She has raised the quality of her setting to a good level and sought, and acted upon, advice from outside agencies. She regularly evaluates her teaching skills and children's outcomes.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasion, the childminder interrupts children's learning unnecessarily. She does not always give them enough time to follow their own interests and ideas. The childminder does not always make the best use of opportunities to extend children's independence and self-care skills to the highest level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

support children more effectively to pursue their own ideas and follow their own interests through their self-chosen activities allow children more opportunities to develop their independence and carry out age- appropriate tasks for themselves.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed and discussed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's information and learning records, safeguarding procedures, qualifications and training certificates, self- evaluation, attendance registers and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents and carers spoken to on the day and from written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder keeps up to date with changes in child protection legislation. She has a good understanding of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder is alert to risks in the environment. She takes appropriate steps to reduce hazards, to keep children safe. The childminder tracks and monitors children's progress, and any gaps in learning are swiftly identified and closed. The childminder strives for continuous improvement and sources regular professional development opportunities. For example, targeted training on the learning and development requirements have vastly improved her skills and knowledge and children's outcomes. The childminder works in partnership with a wide range of other professionals to support a collaborative and consistent approach to children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder regularly observes and assesses children's development. She uses this information to identify and plan for their next steps in learning. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. For example, she speaks slowly, repeats words and introduces new vocabulary, such as 'Frisbee' and 'gliding'. The childminder encourages children to be imaginative. For example, children enjoy pretending to be car drivers. They giggle as they recreate car journeys and visits to the shop that are familiar. The childminder helps children develop their creative ideas. For example, they are excited as they paint porcelain character figures. Children have access to a variety of books throughout their session. They develop their early writing skills and are keen to identify and write letters from their names.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children thrive in a nurturing and friendly environment. They have established trusting and warm relationships with the childminder and demonstrate good levels of emotional well-being. The childminder helps children to understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle. She provides them with a wide range of nutritious snacks and children begin to learn about food that is good for them. Children enjoy being active outside in the fresh air. They hunt for bugs, paint using water and giggle as they splash the childminder. Children are becoming aware of the world and the community around them. They visit places of interest on the train and bus and develop an understanding of similarities and differences between themselves and others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children gain the key skills needed to move on to the next stage of their learning or school. They are eager to learn, sociable and confident. Children make good attempts at counting, sorting and matching shapes and objects. They know how to operate technological toys and giggle when they discover that they can produce a range of different sounds using items they find outdoors.
