This provision is good
Children develop strong social skills and form good relationships. They are very polite, and show care and consideration towards the needs of others. Children make good progress. The childminder provides children with a wide range of learning experiences indoors and outdoors, and takes children on many exciting outings to further increase their experiences and learning opportunities. Partnerships with parents and carers are strong. The childminder frequently shares information about children's progress and development, and encourages them to extend children's learning, such as by providing games and books for children to share at home. The childminder and her assistant provide particularly strong support for children's language and literacy skills. Children confidently use speech to express themselves and older children start to learn the shapes and sounds of letters that are important to them.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to her professional development to help her to continually improve outcomes for children. She ensures her assistants have the skills and knowledge they need to provide consistent support for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to experiment or investigate in more depth, to extend their learning and understanding further to help them make even better progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide more opportunities for children to investigate and experiment, to further extend their understanding of how things work and why they change.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder, her assistant and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records and a sample of other documentation. The inspector took account of the childminder's self-evaluation and feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very good understanding of child protection procedures and the action to take if she has a concern about a child's welfare. She keeps her skills and knowledge up to date, for example, by linking with professionals in the field. She closely monitors the work of her assistants and provides support and training to enable them to build on their skills further to benefit children's care and learning. The childminder reflects well on her practice. She works closely with her assistants to evaluate activities and the success of these in supporting children's progress. She actively seeks the views of parents to help her identify improvements. She effectively increases her knowledge to meet the children's needs, for example, she attends training and workshops, which help her to better support children's speech and language skills. The childminder shares information with other professionals to help promote consistency
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder's enthusiastic approach to learning means that children are excited and keen to learn. The childminder provides reassurance and shows interest in what children have to say, encouraging them to use language confidently to share what they know. For example, as they make their fruit kebabs for snacks, they talk about the shapes, colours and textures of the fruit they select, as well as talking about healthy food choices. The childminder has a good understanding of the progress children make and the next steps in their learning. She uses this and her knowledge of children's interests when planning and providing activities, helping to ensure children are keen to participate. She provides a wide range of resources that is easily accessible, enabling children to make choices.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder and her assistant provide good support for children's emotional well- being. Children settle well, and feel relaxed and comfortable in the familiar routines and boundaries. The childminder is vigilant about safety, and helps children to learn about safety through their play. For example, as they build towers using the large blocks, they discuss how to keep their play safe and prevent accidents. Children are increasingly independent and manage their personal care needs with confidence. Children have a strong sense of belonging and feel proud of who they are. For example, they talk excitedly about new additions to their family.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and acquire skills that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning, such as school. Children are considerate and respectful of each other, and understand how to share and take turns so they can all enjoy their play. They have a keen interest in books, frequently visiting the library and taking books home to share with family members. They start to recognise letters and patterns, and often practise their early writing skills, such as when they 'have a go' at writing their names on their paintings and use notepads in their role play.
