This provision is good
The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment, both indoors and outside. Children enjoy playing and experimenting with interesting resources and materials to discover what they can do with them. Children make good progress and develop the skills they need for future learning. They are inquisitive and keen to acquire new knowledge and skills. The childminder sensitively supports children to develop good levels of independence. They take an active part in managing their own personal care needs. Children have a strong understanding of the importance of good health and hygiene. Children go on outings and develop their understanding of the world around them. They join groups of children where they develop their social skills and build friendships. The childminder works hard to develop successful ways to share information about children's learning and care with parents. She values the views of parents and children,

and actively seeks their opinions when evaluating her service.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not yet developed an ambitious programme of professional development to extend her knowledge and further enhance the quality of teaching and learning to exemplary levels. Occasionally, the childminder does not always allow children enough time to think and respond to her questions before she answers for them.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector viewed a focused activity with the childminder and discussed the children's progress and achievements. The inspector spoke to children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector reviewed relevant documents, including evidence of the suitability of the persons working and living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents from their written responses to surveys organised by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has made a good start to her childminding career. She evaluates her environment, continually reviews her resources and works hard to make sure she is meeting the needs of the children. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder places a high priority on children's safety. She carries out regular checks of her home and garden to ensure that any risks to children are minimised. All adults living within the home have undertaken suitability checks. The childminder has a good understanding of her child protection responsibilities. She has a secure understanding of how to recognise and respond to concerns about children's welfare. The childminder has completed online training to gain knowledge of current safeguarding issues. She knows the steps to take if children are at risk of extreme behaviour or views.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children very well. She understands their stage of development and their individual capabilities. The childminder plans activities that children thoroughly enjoy and she successfully extends their learning further as they play. She offers clear instructions to children and demonstrates how to use tools and resources effectively. The childminder accurately assesses children's learning on entry to the setting. She carefully monitors children's development and plans effectively to support any gaps in their learning. Reports are shared and the childminder offers ideas to parents on how they can continue to support children's learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very settled in the childminder's care. Each child is treated as an individual and all children demonstrate a sense of belonging. Children explore the house and garden with confidence and enjoy the company of the childminder and other children. The childminder ensures that children benefit from fresh air and physical activity each day. Children learn to take care of themselves in hot weather. The childminder also makes sure that children can relax and sleep peacefully in cosy areas away from the main play spaces. Children behave well. The childminder sets clear boundaries. She helps children to consider each other's emotions and work out solutions to their problems. Children learn to take care of the environment. They help to sort items for recycling.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are enthusiastic learners and make good progress. They are developing good manners and social skills. Children learn to share and take turns with resources. The skills they are acquiring prepare them well for their next stage in learning, including the move on to nursery or school. Children become absorbed in play as they explore mud, water and other tactile and natural materials. They take great pleasure in looking at books and listening to stories. They investigate props, puppets and different fruit linked to popular children's songs and literature. Children calculate as they sing number rhymes. They explore shapes and colours and use mathematical language as they play.
