This provision is good
The childminder works successfully in partnership with parents to help provide continuity for care and learning. For example, she has developed resources for parents to use at home with their children to support their reading skills. The childminder makes accurate assessments of children and identifies appropriate next steps for their learning, considering their interests and developmental stage. She effectively monitors children's development and identifies any gaps in learning. Children make good progress from their starting points and are motivated to learn. The childminder is skilled in helping children extend their mathematical understanding and makes good use of opportunities that arise to extend this further. Children use their counting skills confidently as they play, talk about shapes and recognise numbers. The childminder prioritises children's good health and helps them to learn about healthy

choices and staying safe. Children learn about the importance of eating a range of nutritious food to give them energy for an active lifestyle and how to minimise trip hazards when they use toys on the floor.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not identify when children need more time to respond to questions and develop ideas for themselves. The childminder does not make the best use of the provision to challenge and excite children who prefer learning outdoors.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection and carried out a joint evaluation of the teaching and learning. The inspector viewed the areas of the childminder's home used by children. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as policies and children's records. The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to protect children and has clear procedures in place if she has any concerns. She regularly updates her knowledge about child protection issues. The childminder evaluates her provision carefully to ensure it meets children's needs. For example, she has made changes to some routines for older children to further support their transition to school. She is committed to developing her professional knowledge further, such as attending training opportunities and carrying out her own research. For instance, she has developed her understanding of the different ways children learn, to enhance their experiences further. The childminder develops good partnerships with other providers and she regularly shares information with them about children's learning and care needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder helps children develop their understanding of the world. Children are interested in observing the weather, share their knowledge of animals and discuss how materials such as pasta change after cooking. The childminder plans effective opportunities for children to practise their physical skills. For example, she encourages children to persevere as they play target games and children concentrate as they create collages with different materials. The childminder supports children's early literacy skills well. Children recognise sounds they can hear in words and are keen to use writing tools.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder plans a good range of activities to raise children's awareness of the community they live in and they learn to respect their differences. For instance, she takes children out into the community to meet new people, provides a wide range of resources that reflects diversity and plans activities to celebrate different festivals. The childminder is caring, nurturing and knows children well. She is a good role model and manages children's behaviour successfully. They learn to share and take turns and she also teaches them the importance of being kind and gentle with each other and animals.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning. They progress well in their communication development, joining in conversations and developing expressive language, such as 'glub glub' to describe glue as it is poured. Children are confident in their own abilities and develop their independence skills. They learn to manage their self- care, including changing their clothes and they help to tidy away without prompting. Children enjoy playing imaginatively. For instance, they help to build dens and use these to develop their role play, such as by turning them into 'shops' and 'homes'.
