This provision is good

 The leader and staff know the children very well. They provide a wide range of stimulating learning opportunities, and all children are motivated to learn. Children make good progress from their initial starting points.  The leader and staff are good role models for children. They develop close relationships with the children, and are sensitive and caring in their approach. Children behave well. They know to be kind, tolerant and respectful.  Partnerships with parents are good. The leader and staff ensure they keep parents fully informed about all aspects of children's learning and how they can extend this at home. Parents praise the leader and staff. They value the care their children receive.  The leader supports her staff team well. Together they identify ways to improve practice and ensure all children, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and those with additional needs, receive good levels of support. The

leader and staff have maintained good-quality teaching and children's good outcomes.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasion, some staff are too keen to provide answers to questions that they ask before giving children the opportunity to think and find solutions for themselves.  The leader does not use assessment information to check on the progress of different groups of children, to target teaching and ensure any gaps in learning close swiftly.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 support staff to recognise when to give children more time to express their knowledge, think through ideas and respond to questions they are asked  use information from assessments more effectively to monitor the progress being made by different groups of children and target teaching even more precisely.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities, indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector checked a sample of documentation, including attendance records, accident, risk and incident records, staff suitability checks, the self-assessment information, children's observation, assessment and planning records, and documentation linked to managing children's progress.  The inspector spoke with members of staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection, and held meetings with the leader and the management committee.  The inspector took into account the views of parents and carers spoken to on the day of the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The leader and staff keep abreast of changes in child protection legislation. They clearly understand the procedures to follow should they have concerns about a child's welfare. The leader follows rigorous recruitment and induction procedures to help ensure the ongoing suitability of all staff. She has a high regard for children's safety, and staff deploy themselves well to provide children with any additional support they may need. Staff supervise children well, and maintain and often exceed staff-to-child ratios. The leader supports the staff to understand the requirements of their role. For example, she observes the quality and impact of their teaching, and they have regular one-to-one meetings to help develop their skills and knowledge. The leader and staff are experienced and access a range of professional development opportunities. For example, targeted training on how children can evolve storylines has increased staff

knowledge and children's outcomes. The leader works closely with other professionals to support continuity in children's care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff complete regular observations and assessments of children's achievements. They use this information well to plan activities linked to children's interests. Overall, staff support children's language skills well. For example, they broaden their vocabulary and model new words, such as 'diversion' and 'collision'. Children go on to use these words as they play. Staff encourage children to be imaginative in their play. For example, children pretend to go shopping. They get excited when they become builders and superheroes. Children test out their early design skills. They use a range of tools to make spiders, ladybirds and worms with the dough they have made. Staff support children's creative skills well. For example, children delight in drawing pictures of their family. They explore freely with paint and choose whether to use a brush, their hands, or both.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff are attentive and respond well to children's individual needs. They take the time to get to know each child and ensure they are emotionally secure. Staff help children understand about healthy lifestyles. Snack times are unhurried social occasions where children and staff sit together. Children manage their own personal needs well. They enjoy being outdoors regularly and staff ensure that the environment is safe for children to use each day. Children develop an increasing awareness of the community in which they live. They celebrate various festivals, such as Diwali and Easter.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain key skills for the eventual move on to school. They are independent, sociable and confident. Children develop good literacy skills. They begin to write their own names and some recognise rhyming words. Children enjoy counting, sorting and matching objects. They recognise dimensional shapes and use simple addition and subtraction. Children enjoy looking at books, listening to stories and repeat key phrases.
