p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not accurately record the days or the hours children attend, as required. This is also a breach of the Childcare Register requirements. The childminder does not plan or provide suitably challenging activities for all children to extend their learning in order to help them make consistently good progress. The childminder's professional development is not focused sharply enough on developing her teaching skills to help raise the standard. The childminder does not reflect carefully enough on the overall quality of the provision to help identify areas for development and effectively address all weaknesses in order to improve outcomes for children.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children are happy and they have positive relationships with the childminder. She is loving, warm and affectionate. She gets to know children and their families well during their settling-in period. The childminder helps children to adhere to her simple rules and behaviour boundaries. Children behave very well. They are polite, kind and considerate. They also listen to the childminder and follow instructions. The childminder promotes children's good health. Children adopt good hygiene routines, eat well and take exercise, which helps to support their physical well-being. The childminder's home is clean and secure. She completes risk assessments frequently to help minimise any hazards in order to keep children safe. The childminder works with parents and other providers to share information about children's care and development, which helps to promote some continuity.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed teaching practice and evaluated the effectiveness of an activity with the childminder. The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding and held discussions with the childminder. The inspector looked at the documents and records available. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder. The inspector discussed with the childminder her methods for self-evaluation. The inspector sought the views of parents from the written evidence provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder does not carefully evaluate the overall quality of the provision to help her achieve and maintain good practice. She does not keep all required documentation or focus sharply on improving her teaching practice. Nevertheless, although the childminder works alone, she networks with other childminders for support and accesses training to keep some of her skills up to date, such as safeguarding and first aid. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder's knowledge of child protection issues is sound. She can recognise the different indicators of abuse or neglect and understands what to do if she has any concerns in order to protect children's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder does not make the best use of what she knows about children's learning to promote their progress well enough. She does not provide babies with enough opportunities to play, explore and experiment freely or plan experiences for pre-school children that fully interest, enthuse and motivate them to learn. Nevertheless, the childminder has a basic overview of the progress children make. She is aware of her responsibility to provide appropriate help to any children requiring additional support. The childminder helps children to learn some skills, such as creative experiences. She provides painting and drawing resources and shows children how to use resources, talks to them about what they are doing and helps them to develop their imaginative ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder does not keep accurate records of children's attendance. Nevertheless, she knows which children are due to attend each day and follows up any absences. The childminder works within and maintains adult-to-child ratios, and closely supervises children to help keep them safe. She teaches children about the importance of being healthy. For example, the childminder ensures children have access to fresh air and encourages them to move in different ways to strengthen their physical skills. Babies can push themselves along using low-level ride-on vehicles. Older children crawl through tunnels and propel themselves backwards and forwards on the swing.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children do not make consistently good progress. Nevertheless, children are confident and independent. All children are developing skills in communication, language and literacy. Babies moved their bodies or arms to sounds and music. Pre-school children like singing familiar rhymes and songs. Babies enjoy looking at the pictures in books and pre-school children talk about what is happening in the story. Children acquire some of the basic skills they need in readiness for the eventual move on to school.
