training and identifies courses that will help improve outcomes for children, such as supporting families and vulnerable people.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder gathers information about children's care routines from parents when they first start, she does not find out about children's specific learning from home. The childminder provides less opportunities for children to explore and investigate, using all of their senses to express themselves.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder and her assistant. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents in written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of her role to protect the children in her care. She ensures her assistant is knowledgeable about safeguarding procedures and they both attend regular training. The childminder and her assistant work closely together to meet children's needs and complement each other's strengths. The childminder demonstrates a positive attitude to ensuring her knowledge of childcare and new legislation is always up to date. She is a member of childcare forums and welcomes support from local authority advisers. Close, working relationships are in place with parents who comment positively on the learning and care their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children happily explore the childminder's play areas and make their own choices about the resources they would like to play with. The childminder knows the children in her care well and provides play opportunities and resources that match their interests. Children enjoy playing outside and engage in vigorous activity with the childminder's assistant. They show very good coordination as they kick footballs and hit smaller balls with appropriate size golf clubs. The childminder talks to children as they play, she repeats words to help young children develop their communication and language skills. The childminder reads stories to children and they enjoy singing favourite songs and putting actions to the words.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is loving and caring. Children happily seek her out for cuddles, especially when feeling tired and easily fall asleep in her arms. Children are beginning to develop an understanding of sharing and turn taking in activities through the childminder's gentle encouragement. They receive regular praise for their achievements, such as catching a ball for the first time which helps to raise their self-esteem. The childminder promotes a healthy lifestyle. Children spend time in the fresh air every day and engage in physical exercise. Young children learning to walk are provided with appropriate resources and encouragement to do so. Children are beginning to take an interest in their own self-care prior to starting pre-school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their individual starting points. They are working comfortably within the typical range of development for their age. Children's independence is nurtured and they learn to be sociable. They spend time out and about in the community, meeting new people and visiting places, such as the library. Children are confident and are able to express their own wants and needs. Children are developing the main skills they need for when they move on to their next stage of learning.
