This provision is good
The childminder uses self-evaluation to develop her practice. For example, she reflects on and adapts the activities she provides to meet the individual needs of children based on their current interests. Children demonstrate high levels of self-confidence and emotional well-being as they explore the good range of resources that the childminder provides. The childminder uses children's interests to encourage them to explore and be imaginative. For example, they visit woodlands to follow a trail to look for animals made from wood. Children learn to lead healthy lifestyles. For instance, they learn the importance of regular handwashing and the need to drink lots of water when it is hot to keep well hydrated. The childminder supports children well in developing the skills that they will need for their future learning, including school. She encourages children to be respectful to others, take turns and share.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does monitor children's progress well enough to help her identify some gaps in their learning. She does not always recognise when children are making more than their expected level of progress to provide them with additional support. Children are not consistently given the opportunity to choose how they would like to do things as some activities are predominantly led by the childminder.

develop ways to more effectively monitor children's progress, to help identify any gaps in their learning or where they are making better than expected progress, so that additional support can be swiftly provided provide children with more opportunities to make their own choices about how they would like to do things during their play.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her practice, especially how she assesses children and provides suitable learning activities and experiences. The inspector viewed a range of relevant policies that the childminder has in place and held discussions about how they will be implemented. The inspector checked other required documentation, such as the childminder's paediatric first-aid certificate and public liability insurance. The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and discussed how she evaluates her teaching.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The childminder has completed relevant training and understands what to do if she is concerned about a child's well-being. She works well with other professionals, including other childminders, and shares ideas with them to help sharpen her teaching skills. The childminder completes regular observations of children as they play. She uses this information to identify their interests and to enable her to offer a variety of activities to help children learn. The childminder keeps parents well informed of the progress their child makes and regularly shares information with them about their child's learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and develop. She provides highly purposeful play activities which motivate and engage all children. For example, she uses children's enjoyment in books to encourage them to identify what will happen next in a story. During activities and daily routines, the childminder uses every opportunity to encourage children to count and use mathematical language. For example, she helps children to count how many grapes they have and asks them if they can cut them in half. When they have finished cutting them, she introduces mathematical concepts and language, such as 'more', to further enhance children's understanding.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is very caring. Children respond well to her consistent approach and their behaviour is very good. The childminder sets clear boundaries, emphasises the need to be kind and caring to others and uses lots of praise to help reinforce positive behaviour. The childminder teaches children about the importance of having a healthy lifestyle. Children make healthy food choices and follow good hygiene practices. The childminder ensures her premises are safe by completing regular risk assessments. Children learn the importance of keeping themselves safe. They follow good road safety procedures, including stopping, looking and listening when crossing the road. They understand the importance of keeping the environment tidy to keep themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make very good progress from their starting points. Children concentrate well as they eagerly join in with activities. They demonstrate high levels of motivation and are inquisitive. Children are confident, happy and secure to move on to the next stage in their learning, including pre-school and school. They can confidently count and are beginning to recognise the sounds at the beginning of familiar words.
