For example, children eagerly explore toy crabs, turtles and sea shells while listening to stories about the seaside. They thoroughly enjoy copying new words they learn, for instance, while searching for plastic shapes in cooked jelly. The childminder's communication with children is excellent. Inspection activities
The inspector observed indoor and outdoor activities. The inspector and childminder completed a joint observation. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including self-evaluation. The inspector took account of parents' comments within documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent knowledge and understanding of her safeguarding policies and procedures. She regularly attends local authority safeguarding training to keep up to date with child protection procedures. The childminder has very high expectations of the children. She uses knowledge gained from completing a quality assurance award and a wealth of other training to continually improve children's care and learning. For example, she has created a water play area and a mud kitchen to support children's learning outdoors highly effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder's teaching practice is exemplary. She has an outstanding knowledge and understanding of how to move children on in their learning and development. Children develop an excellent understanding of the world. For example, they learn about the seasons and life cycles, and they watch chrysalises change into caterpillars and butterflies. The childminder successfully develops children's excellent pre-writing skills. For example, she encourages children to manipulate modelling dough while listening to music to help build strength in their fingers. The childminder successfully develops children's confidence to 'have a go' during their play. For example, under her close supervision, children climb up ladders and go down slides at high speed. The childminder is now considering how to increase the excellent opportunities for children to work things out for themselves.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder forms exceptionally close, caring relationships with children who are extremely settled in her care. She skilfully and effectively helps children learn to understand and control their emotions. Children are superbly well behaved and form very close friendships and excellent social skills. The childminder promotes children's good health extremely effectively. For example, she shares information about food nutrition with parents so that children are provided with healthy options. Children quickly learn to do things for themselves. For example, they put on their shoes and sunhats, peel bananas and make their own sandwiches at lunchtime.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children develop a wide range of skills that prepares them exceptionally well for starting school. They listen and focus their attention effectively, for example, during adult-led activities and conversations. Some children's language development is extremely advanced and exceeds typical levels of development. Older children show great interest in learning to write their name.
