This provision is good
The childminder manages children's behaviour well. For example, she is fair and consistent and uses praise well to motivate positive behaviour. The childminder thinks carefully about the needs of the children and provides stimulating activities. She observes children regularly to keep a close check on their development. All children make good progress. The childminder is keen to improve her skills. For instance, she completed a course on supporting boys' development which led to more effective practice in this area. The childminder has a good awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of her practice and has set clear goals to achieve ongoing improvements.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:

The childminder monitors her work well. For instance, she exchanges ideas with other childminders and acts on advice and support from others involved in early years to improve her practice. The childminder keeps a close check on children's progress to provide additional support where this is needed. She works well with parents to provide them with regular updates on children's progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about the procedures to follow should she have concerns around a child's welfare. She keeps her home safe, for instance, by checking all areas regularly to reduce the risk of accidents.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her knowledge of children's abilities to provide suitably challenging activities. She teaches children good personal and social skills. For instance, children share and take turns as they play with toys. The childminder supports children's language development well; for example, by speaking clearly, modelling good sentence structures and through effective questioning. She helps children to gain good early literacy skills. She reads to children in lively tones and encourages their participation. Children have good opportunities to increase their physical development. They learn to move confidently in different ways, such as by running, jumping and climbing.
p.3

Children are keen, confident and happy learners. They have warm, secure relationships with the childminder, who values each child as an individual. She motivates them to learn, for example, by providing activities linked to their interests which they thoroughly enjoy. Children have good levels of independence. For instance, they feed themselves and learn to put on different items of clothing. The childminder teaches children how to behave in safe ways, such as through discussing road safety and how to use tools and materials in her home with care. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. They eat well-balanced meals provided by the childminder and enjoy daily physical exercise.
p.3
