This provision is good
The childminder and her assistant make good use of their qualifications to provide high-quality care and education. The childminder supports her assistant so she can use her skills effectively to provide a wide range of stimulating and exciting learning experiences for all children. Children learn to manage their feelings and behaviour well. All adults encourage children to make friends, share and take turns. Children have positive role models to follow. They are polite and behaviour is good. The childminder and her assistant carry out detailed observations of children's experiences. They use these effectively to plan the next steps in children's learning. All children make good progress. The childminder has positive relationships with parents and other settings that children attend. She shares information about children's interests, experiences and progress so that there is a consistent approach to their learning and development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder and her assistant do not consistently recognise when to encourage children to complete manageable tasks in order to support their growing independence. The childminder does not always make the most of opportunities to reflect the interests of children who like spending much of their time outdoors.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder and her assistant. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through conversation and written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a good knowledge of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect. They are fully aware of the procedures to follow to protect children from harm, and carry out daily checks of all areas and activities that are accessed by children. The childminder provides detailed information to parents about children's ongoing achievements. She completes the progress check for children aged between two and three years. The childminder effectively oversees the work of her assistant. She observes her practice, providing feedback to maintain a consistent approach. This helps to support children's emotional and physical needs in an effective way.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant use their knowledge of child development well to support children's learning. Children independently choose books to look at from the selection available. The childminder and her assistant encourage them to join in with the familiar refrains from the story and to imitate sounds. They ask questions to encourage children to think and answer. Children develop good communication and language skills. Opportunities are taken during play activities to support children's use of counting. For example, they count how many spoons of pasta are required to fill a cup. Children use their imagination to imitate real-life experiences. For example, they pretend to make tea for the childminder and their friends.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are welcomed into the childminder's warm and friendly home environment. They quickly form strong relationships with the childminder and her assistant, and show high levels of motivation and confidence when exploring the toys and equipment available. The childminder and her assistant work hard to build on children's awareness of how to be healthy. For example, they talk about healthy eating and children thoroughly enjoy the fresh fruit they have for snack. Children follow good hygiene practices, such as handwashing, and take an active part in their own self-care. They benefit from regular opportunities to visit the park. This helps to promote their physical development well.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and enthusiastic learners. They explore their surroundings and concentrate well on tasks, persisting until they achieve what they set out to do. They are becoming skilful communicators who are increasingly able to express themselves. Children make good progress in their learning and are starting to gain the essential skills they need in readiness for starting school.
