This provision is good
The dedicated childminder is an advocate for active learning. She plans a wide range of engaging and exciting learning opportunities which keep children interested and motivated to learn. The childminder teaches children well about mutual respect, tolerance and acceptance. Children are well-rounded individuals who have a deep understanding of the diverse community they live in. Partnership working is strong. Links with the community, primary school and local authority are secure. Parents receive daily feedback summaries and are kept well- informed of their children's developmental progress. Children develop good literacy skills. They excitedly choose books, handle them with care and imaginatively use the illustrations to tell the story. They enact roles of their favourite characters and use good strategies to blend letter sounds together.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not gather enough information from parents on what children can already do when they first start, to help inform planning of activities and experiences from the outset. Although the childminder monitors and evaluates her practice, she has not established a highly focused programme of professional development to drive forward the quality of teaching to an even higher level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. He looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke with children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided. The inspector looked at the areas of the premises that are used for childminding, including the outdoor area.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the possible signs, symptoms and indicators of abuse and neglect. She knows the referral procedure well and understands the steps to take if an allegation is made against herself or a family member. The childminder attends training and updates her procedures to reflect the local authority's policies and legislation. Self-evaluation is strong. Improvement plans are sharply focused and include the views of parents and children. The childminder's capacity to continually improve and drive forward change is good.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Good teaching, coupled with an in-depth understanding of child development helps all children to make good and better progress towards the early learning goals. Planning, assessment and observation arrangements are good. The childminder prioritises and evaluates children's individual progress well. She puts timely interventions in place and monitors these with precision. Gaps in learning quickly diminish and all children make good progress across the areas of learning. Children's laughter and eagerness to explore permeates through this vibrant setting. They excitedly choose nursery rhymes from a pretend magic box and become fascinated while playing musical instruments. They search for bugs outdoors and become enthralled while picking fruit from the garden to have for their snack.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Care practices are good. The childminder spends time getting to know children and their families before they start at the setting. She places high priority in supporting children's emotional and physical well-being. Children gain a real sense of individuality. Children have positive levels of self-esteem, confidence and are motivated individuals. They discuss similarities and differences beyond their own experiences and show genuine care and love to one another. The childminder is a good role model and provides children with clear, consistent and age-appropriate behavioural expectations. Children behave well and discuss the importance of following rules. The childminder provides an array of opportunities for children to be physically active. She discusses the importance of healthy living and teaches children about the need to keep themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are curious, capable and independent individuals. They hang their coats up, tend to their own physical needs and tidy up after playing with toys. They show good perseverance skills while completing jigsaw puzzles. Older children write for different purposes and show good reading skills. They confidently count everyday objects and discuss measurements during their play. Children develop the necessary skills in readiness for their next steps in learning, including their eventual move on to school.
