This provision is good
Opportunities for children to develop healthy lifestyles are given high priority. Children are taught to follow good hygiene routines and they benefit from regular play in the outdoors and physical exercise. The childminder provides a homely, welcoming and stimulating environment where children have easy access to a good range of high-quality resources, which enables them to make independent choices in their play. The childminder is a positive role model. She encourages children, through their play, to share and take turns. She supports children to persevere and offers high praise for all that they do. As a result, children are confident and have good self-esteem. The childminder has a very good knowledge of local child protection procedures. She clearly explains the steps to take should she think a child was at risk of harm. The childminder attends training annually and tests her knowledge through completing

regular quizzes on this topic. She keeps herself up to date with current guidance.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always plan precisely enough to help children make the very best progress towards the next steps in their learning. Occasionally, the childminder does not give children enough time to think and respond to her questions and suggestions.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

sharpen the planning of activities that help children achieve the identified next steps in their learning, so they make rapid progress give children more time to think, consider their answers to questions and follow suggestions.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with children and the childminder at appropriate times in the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the suitability of those living on the premises, policies and procedures and training certificates. The inspector took account of the views of parents from written testimonies.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures the environment children have access to is safe and suitable for their play and activities. She completes daily checks and thorough risk assessments of the premises, to further promote children's safety. The childminder evaluates her provision and identifies areas that she would like to develop even further. She is committed to the ongoing continued improvement of her practice. The childminder builds successful relationships with parents, and offers ongoing opportunities for them to share information about children's well-being and learning. For example, she provides detailed daily diaries about children and shares good information about their progress, both verbally and through a software programme.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is experienced and has a good understanding of how children learn, overall. She gets down to children's level and supports them well as they play. The childminder ensures that all children can participate in every activity and encourages and supports them to have a go. Children persevere at activities and, even when water pours onto them instead of the paddling pool, they don't give in. Children talk animatedly about visiting their new school and hope there will be pear for snack so they can 'see if I like it'. They show good scissor skills and recognise the shapes they have made when cutting out. Children love to be creative and are proud of their achievements. They show the childminder and inspector their artwork which the childminder states they will put on the wall for everyone to see.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have good access to the outdoors. They show good physical skills and safety as they climb in and out of a toy car and push this along the grass with their feet. The childminder ensures children have opportunities to develop their social skills with larger groups of children. For example, they visit local toddler groups. The childminder is highly in tune to children's individual needs and meets these well. She recognises small changes in their emotional well-being and knows when they are ready for a sleep or change of play. The childminder helps children learn to value and respect everyone around them. She offers play equipment that depicts diversity and plans interesting activities, to help children learn about festivals from around the world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. Their early reading and mathematical skills are developing well. They match numbers on ducks to the corresponding card and anticipate and discuss what will happen next in a story. They display good levels of independence as they take their own shoes on and off and manage their own personal care.
