This provision is good

 There are very effective partnerships with parents and other professionals. Good communication enables all parties to remain fully aware of children developing needs, progress and achievements. All children, including those who have special educational needs and/or disabilities, make good progress from their starting points.  Children enter a vibrant, exciting environment and are greeted warmly by staff. Close attachments form between children and staff, who spend lots of time getting to know individual children's care and learning needs.  Staff are clear and consistent about expectations for behaviour, and children behave extremely well. Staff are consistently kind, caring and patient. Children confidently learn how to share, take turns and consider each other's needs.  Children thoroughly enjoy playing outdoors and staff maximise opportunities to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the local environment. Children are eager to

dress themselves as they go on a 'welly walk' to jump in and investigate puddles.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, some group activities do not successfully engage all children fully so that they are highly challenged and motivated, in order to maximise their learning potential.  The manager and staff do not routinely use contributions from parents to better inform the self-evaluation process.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 review and adapt the organisation of group activities and help all children to remain fully focused and highly engaged with the learning taking place  improve the systems to evaluate the provision in order to seek more focused feedback from parents.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector had a tour of the premises.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact on children's progress. She spoke to children and staff throughout the inspection.  The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the manager and discussed the teaching and impact on children's progress.  The inspector held a meeting with the manager. She looked at records and documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults within the group.  The inspector spoke to parents throughout the inspection and took account of their comments.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The owner and manager are passionate about their roles and strive to provide the highest quality of care and learning for children. The staff team is dedicated and enthusiastic. Thorough recruitment and induction procedures are in place. Suitability checks are completed for all staff. An effective process is in place for staff supervision and appraisals to monitor their practice and to review children's progress. The manager conducts these with staff on a regular basis. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff keep their child protection knowledge up to date. One of the ways they do this is through their attendance at relevant training courses, including in-house training. The manager also tests staff's knowledge by asking them questions about various safeguarding scenarios during everyday activities. Staff have a secure understanding of the signs and symptoms of possible abuse. They know the local procedures to follow in the event of a concern

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Key persons complete initial baseline assessments to ensure children's starting points are clear from the beginning. Planning is based on information from observations and used to identify appropriate next steps for children's learning. Staff use their comprehensive knowledge of how children learn and develop to plan a wide variety of interesting and challenging activities. Overall, children are very focused and they are supported well by staff to complete their task. Staff make good use of children's current interests to help build on their knowledge. Older children show an interest in investigating how things work and move. They show great enjoyment in building an electronic field to make a magnet and investigate how another powers a carousel for the various animals. Staff use the experience well to extend children's vocabulary with words, such as 'magnets'. Older children are developing good mathematical skills and understanding of numbers as they

confidently count to 20 and beyond. They are starting to complete simple mathematical calculations, such as addition and subtraction.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff gather comprehensive information from parents prior to children starting at the setting. Flexible setting-in sessions are offered to help children quickly adjust to the nursery. Children enjoy freshly prepared snacks which they enjoy in a social setting, and the self-service helps support their independence skills. Full details of children's individual dietary preferences are taken into account. Children benefit from fresh air outdoors each day to help support their physical well-being.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are well motivated and able learners. Older children have very good early literacy skills and confidently know the letter sounds. They are beginning to understand simple signs and words, and confidently communicate to express themselves. All children quickly learn the skills needed for the next stage in their learning and for school.
