This provision is good
Since the last inspection, the childminder has liaised well with the local authority and developed ways to improve her practice effectively. She has successfully developed her knowledge and understanding of how to assess, monitor and plan for each child's learning needs. Children are happy, secure and form warm relationships with the childminder. They are confident to find toys they like to play with. Children benefit from a wide range of learning experiences and enjoy playing with the childminder and her co-childminder. The childminder attends regular training. This helps her to improve the quality of her teaching and her provision effectively. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder uses a variety of ways to communicate effectively with parents to keep them informed about children's care, learning and development successfully.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not find out as much as possible about what children already know and can do when they first join the setting, to support planning from the outset. Although the childminder evaluates her provision and practice effectively, she does not involve parents and children fully in the process.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She reviewed relevant documents, including those related to evidence of checks on the suitability of those living on the premises. The inspector spoke to children as appropriate during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents in written form.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role in safeguarding. She can identify the different signs of abuse and she knows what action to take if she is concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder is well qualified for her role and uses the knowledge gained from training successfully to enhance her practice and teaching. Her training has had a positive impact on the quality of learning experiences for children. The childminder works well in partnership with parents. She shares information with them well and checks that her practice continues to meet children's individual needs effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has made significant improvements to her observation and assessment system. She regularly observes children and tracks their development effectively. This helps her to plan exciting activities for the children to stimulate their learning successfully. She provides regular opportunities to involve parents in their children's learning. For example, she shares her observations and development journals with them, to encourage them to continue their children's learning at home. The childminder completes progress checks for children aged between two and three years, and shares these with parents. The childminder skilfully encourages children's language development. For example, she makes good use of talking to children, thinking aloud and naming the actions they make. This effectively develops their understanding and vocabulary. The childminder gives children time to explore toys before intervening to support them. They listen well and

make good efforts in holding, pressing and pushing cars along the floor, demonstrating great imagination.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are developing good physical and personal skills. They benefit from good relationships with the childminder. She understands how children learn and like to play. For instance, she joins in sensitively with a child's impromptu game of peekaboo, much to their delight. The childminder helps children to understand what to expect and manage their feelings for themselves effectively. The childminder is a good role model. She encourages children to use good manners and praises their good efforts. She encourages children to think about their own safety. For instance, as they move under a table to retrieve a toy, she reminds them to be careful not to bump their head.
p.3
