This provision is good
The childminder uses her strong skills to support her assistant. They work well together to provide children and their families with good standards of care and learning. The childminder offers a safe and very welcoming play environment for children. For example, they have access to a wide variety of toys and resources to meet their differing needs and abilities. This helps to keep them well motivated. The childminder and her assistant use effective ways to develop children's communication skills. For example, they speak clearly and introduce new words. All children, including those learning English as an additional language or those with gaps in their development, make good progress from their starting points. All children are happy and settled at the setting. They move around the premises safely and have formed positive relationships with their peers and adults. Partnerships with parents are successful. Parents are very happy with the service they

receive and feel informed about their children's learning. This helps to establish a consistent approach.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder is too quick to find answers to questions, and children do not have time to think and problem solve to fully extend their learning. The childminder does not consistently make effective use of daily routines during mealtimes. Children are sometimes left waiting too long between routines and activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and spoke with the childminder, her assistant and the children at appropriate times. The inspector discussed how the childminder evaluates the quality of her provision and targets areas for improvement. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and her assistant in relation to observations of the children's play, learning and progress. The inspector spoke to parents and read written feedback from them to obtain their views about the service. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, planning documentation and policies, including safeguarding procedures and suitability checks.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a strong knowledge of how to identify extreme behaviours and know how to report any concerns. They have completed relevant safeguarding training to further build on their confidence about child protection procedures. The childminder follows rigorous checks to ensure her assistant is suitable to work with children. For example, she offers regular professional development and supervisory meetings to secure her knowledge. Self- evaluation is accurate. The childminder seeks and acts on the views of parents and other professionals, to identify what she does well and to prioritise areas for improvement.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and monitors children's progress effectively. She makes good use of the information gained to provide them with age-appropriate learning experiences. For example, children enjoy exploring different colours and making patterns during a planned activity. They show enjoyment and good levels of concentration. The childminder and her assistant are skilful in supporting children's early mathematical skills. For instance, they incorporate counting and introduce basic shapes during spontaneous play. Children have plenty of opportunities to develop their imagination and creative skills. For example, the childminder and her assistant engage them in meaningful role play, re-enacting previous experiences to enhance their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. Older children look after the younger ones and show respect for their toys and friends. The childminder and her assistant are very kind and gentle to children. They know them well and respond promptly to their care needs. For example, the childminder recognises the signs when children become tired or hungry. This helps to support their physical well-being. The childminder supports children's growth and development effectively. For instance, she follows good hygiene routines and encourages active play. Children benefit from visiting the local library and toddler groups, helping to support their social and physical development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children learn the important skills they need for the next stage of their learning. They develop a positive attitude and gain confidence in their own abilities. For example, young children take delight in practising their first walking steps. Older children become independent and manage their personal needs. Children show enjoyment as they take part in group activities. For example, they sing and dance enthusiastically to familiar nursery songs during a singing session. Children are well prepared for their future learning, including their move to school.
