This provision is good

 The childminder demonstrates a good knowledge and understanding of requirements and she implements this well in her practice to promote good outcomes for children.  Children make good progress in all areas of their development. The childminder completes accurate observations and assessments of children's learning, to identify where they are at in their development and target any areas for further development.  The childminder provides a warm and nurturing environment, where children feel safe and secure in the relationships and close interactions that they share with the childminder.  The childminder has formed strong partnerships with parents, with whom she works closely, to support children's care and learning needs consistently.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the most of opportunities to broaden children's understanding of the natural world around them.  The childminder does not make the best use of professional development opportunities to focus more precisely on raising the quality of her teaching to the highest level and further enhance outcomes for children.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make better use of opportunities to extend children's understanding of the world, including the natural world  extend the plan for professional development to increase knowledge and skills further to enhance future practice for children's care and learning.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of the interactions between the childminder and children as they engaged in activities together.  The inspector engaged with the children and spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at some of the childminder's documentation, including training certificates, written policies and children's individual records.  The inspector took account of parents' comments and views from the questionnaires provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates a secure understanding of child protection issues and what action to take should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder recognises the importance of keeping up to date with childcare practices and she completes training updates, such as for first aid and child protection. She has successfully addressed improvements from the last inspection and improved the daily routines to support children's understanding of healthy living. The childminder has a clear understanding of her role in supporting children's learning. She tracks their progress effectively and tailors learning experiences that take into account their individual interests.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment where children engage in a wide range of learning experiences and confidently explore all available resources. Children enjoy being creative, such as when they engage in role play and drawing. The childminder uses good teaching techniques to challenge children's learning further as she actively engages in their play. She fosters their communication and language skills effectively. For example, she provides basic instructions to test out their levels of understanding. She names objects and encourages children to repeat words and copy sounds during story times. While children play with small-world play resources, the childminder supports their mathematical development; for example, by encouraging them to identify colours and to count.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children display a real sense of belonging as they confidently move around their environment. They develop strong bonds with the childminder and are well supported to develop their social skills. For example, through regular visit to playgroups, children learn to mix, share and to participate with others in group activities. Children are well behaved. They listen to and respond well to the praise they receive from the childminder. Children are encouraged to follow good hygiene routines and they have lots of opportunities to be physically active. For example, they wash their hands at appropriate times during the day and they enjoy bouncing on the trampoline, water play and chalk drawing.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in all areas of learning and are developing a range of skills in preparation for the next stages of their development. They display a real interest and enthusiasm for learning and discovering new things. They explore making marks, which helps them to develop their early writing skills. They demonstrate their communication skills, for example, as they attempt to string words together to form short sentences.
