p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff have a good understanding of child protection issues. They know what to do if they are worried about the welfare or safety of a child. Regular risk assessments help staff to minimise potential hazards and promote children's safety. Management follows effective procedures when recruiting and vetting staff to ensure that they are suitable to work with children. The manager has supervision meetings with staff to support them in their roles. She encourages staff to attend training, which has a positive impact on the overall quality of the pre-school. Staff accurately identify where children need extra help and work well with other professionals to help them catch up. For example, they work with speech and language specialists to help children develop their speaking skills. Staff are deployed effectively and work together well. They share ideas and effectively support each other throughout the day.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Well-qualified and experienced staff provide children with stimulating activities that promote their interest and cover all areas of learning. Children are happy and enthused in their learning. They demonstrate confidence in trying new activities and are motivated to learn. Staff make good use of their assessments of children's development to plan a broad range of play-based experiences that children find interesting and challenging. Children enjoy a variety of opportunities to develop their imagination, such as when pretending to cook and eat food. For example, children have fun pretending to make cakes with coloured rice, adding flower petals for fragrance. Children learn to count, measure and explore a range of mathematical concepts, such as size. They have fun filling containers and pouring water outdoors.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Confidence among children at the pre-school is exceptional and staff employ highly effective methods to ensure that all children feel valued. For example, children are congratulated individually for their achievements during the session. Children choose from a wealth of toys and resources, which enhances their ideas for play and further builds on their independence. They are physically confident and competent, skilfully using apparatus and wheeled toys. Children have an excellent understanding of hygiene procedures, have continual access to fresh air and are extremely active. This contributes to their deepening understanding of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Children play an active role in helping to keep play areas tidy and they safely use a very wide range of tools, utensils and equipment.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children gain good skills in preparation for their future learning, including the move on to school. They learn to recognise and write their names. For example, they find their name cards for snack time and write their names on their drawings. Children learn to express their own ideas thorough a variety of creative activities. They enjoy listening to and discussing favourite stories. Their communication and literacy skills are developing well.
