This provision is good
The childminder provides a happy and stimulating environment for children, who are confident and secure. She offers a wide range of resources, activities and experiences which, overall, supports children's learning and helps them to make good progress. The childminder supports children in developing a good level of understanding, tolerance and respect for others. Children enjoy learning about other cultures and communities as they explore different religious festivals and books that celebrate our differences. The childminder works closely with parents to help create continuity in children's learning and to build on their feelings of security. There is a good two-way flow of communication and parents' written feedback indicates that they are very happy with the care their children receive. The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's learning based on regular observations. She uses this information, along with contributions from parents, to plan

engaging activities that are closely matched to children's interests and individual needs.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always support younger children's growing vocabulary and emerging speaking skills. The childminder does not always provide a wide range of opportunities for children to manage their own safety and learn more about how to keep themselves safe.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector viewed children's records and a range of other documentation, including policies, procedures and self-evaluation tools. She discussed the childminder's planning and assessments. The inspector took account of the views of parents from letters of recommendation and other comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands the correct procedures to follow if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. She keeps up to date with changes to legislation and guidance and has in place a detailed safeguarding policy. This further underpins her strong safeguarding practice. The childminder is proactive in seeking out training opportunities and broadening her early years knowledge to benefit the children. For example, the childminder recently attended training that enhanced her understanding of children's different learning styles. The childminder monitors children's progress regularly. This helps her to identify any gaps in children's development and provide additional support where necessary. The childminder regularly reflects on her practice and identifies her strengths and areas she would like to improve to further develop her practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder engages well with children and joins in with activities. She helps children to make links in their learning as they participate in themed activities. For example, during the mini-beast theme, children enjoy using small plastic insects as part of their play with dough and recall their previous learning. The childminder draws their attention to the differences between the insects and encourages older children to count the legs and other parts. She models making prints in the dough with the different insects and draws children's attention to the patterns they make. Younger children develop a keen interest in books and reading. They handle books with care and pretend to read as they babble at each page before turning it.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children benefit from the childminder's calm and nurturing approach. They enjoy cuddles with the childminder and demonstrate strong emotional attachments. Children behave well and are supported by the childminder to understand the rules and expectations of their behaviour. They listen to instructions and understand how to play cooperatively. Children take part in activities that support their understanding of healthy lifestyles. For example, they enjoy cooking activities and learn about the different groups as well as the benefits of a healthy diet. Children enjoy physical activities, such as dancing, which further support their good health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are motivated to learn and older children show good levels of concentration during activities. Younger children grow in confidence to try new things, such as exploring with texture, showing a positive attitude to their learning. Children develop good levels of independence. For example, they are confident to do things for themselves, make choices and contribute their ideas. Children are well prepared for the next stages in learning, including their eventual move to school.
