Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very good understanding of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder values continuous professional development. She attends courses and completes her own research in order to increase her knowledge. For example, she is investigating training to further her understanding of children's early speech and language development. Policies, procedures and detailed risk assessments are in place and are effectively implemented in practice. This helps to ensure that children are kept safe, both in the home and on outings. The childminder has established good links with other settings that children attend to ensure continuity in children's care. Parents are happy with the care and learning opportunities that their children receive. The childminder has recently introduced a new online system which has been welcomed by parents. This helps

to keep them informed about the progress that their children are making.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is a good teacher. She knows the children well and supports their learning effectively. The childminder understands that children learn through play. She enthusiastically interacts with children in a positive manner and motivates children to learn. The childminder skilfully identifies patterns in children's play and uses this knowledge to plan activities that will ignite their interest. For example, young children who show an interest in moving items from one place to another become engaged in an activity involving scooping breakfast cereals into different receptacles. The childminder engages in meaningful conversations with children and offers commentary to their play. This helps to support their developing communication and language skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a stimulating and welcoming environment for children. Children are happy and settle quickly with the childminder. They seek her out when they need comfort or reassurance. The childminder is calm and patient and offers praise for children's achievements. Children show confidence as they move around the home and choose their play activities. Children are gaining independence. The childminder encourages even very young children to make decisions for themselves. For example, they decide when they would like to have their breakfast by sitting at the small, easily accessible table in the kitchen. Children spend time in the local community. This helps them to learn about the world beyond the childminder's home.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making good progress from their initial starting points. They are confident, motivated and are acquiring an eagerness for learning. Children make good use of the resources that are available to them. They are developing key skills for the move on to the next stage in their learning, or school.
