p.1

Occasionally, during spontaneous play, the childminder does not fully extend children's learning to help challenge their thinking skills to a higher level. The childminder does not consistently share information about the children in her care with other providers where children also attend to help increase support for their learning even further.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. She spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views through written questionnaires and letters. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector discussed the children's development with the childminder and how she planned for the children's individual learning. The inspector discussed some of the policies and procedures with the childminder. This included evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises, the childminder's self-evaluation and qualifications.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is vigilant and knows the correct procedure to follow to ensure children are safe from harm. She has a secure understanding about the signs to look for that might lead to a concern about a child. The childminder keeps her knowledge and skills up to date to improve outcomes for children. She has recently attended a course on teaching mathematics to help improve her understanding of how children learn mathematical skills through play. This has helped her to enrich the activities she provides to further support children's learning. The childminder is committed to continuous improvement. She has successfully addressed the recommendation from her previous inspection to enhance children's communication and language skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is passionate about her role. She understands that children learn through play and provides a wide range of activities and learning experiences which children enjoy. The childminder encourages children's interaction and involvement. For example, children cuddle up to her as they enjoy sharing books and engaging in discussions about the pictures. The childminder enthusiastically plays alongside children to guide and support their learning. She models imaginative play well and helps children to act out narratives, based on their own experiences. The childminder helps younger children to develop their physical skills well. For instance, she helps them to fix the train tracks together and build towers out of blocks.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are relaxed and secure in their familiar routines. They benefit from a rich and vibrant learning environment which reflects diversity and other cultures. The childminder organises resources well to captivate children's interest. Children are confident and growing in independence. They move around the playrooms with ease, selecting their own play and toys. The childminder supports children's safety and children are learning how to keep themselves safe. Healthy lifestyles are promoted effectively. Children have access to regular exercise. For example, when they visit parks and woodlands and use the garden. They enjoy homemade foods and healthy snacks. Children follow good hygiene procedures and are beginning to take care of their personal needs.
p.3
