This provision is good

 The childminder uses children's individual starting points, and her continuous observations, to track their overall progress. This helps her to quickly identify any gaps in learning so that she can provide targeted support to help them to catch up.  Children settle quickly. The childminder is sensitive to their individual needs and adapts the routine as necessary to meet children's emotional needs well.  The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She plans activities to encourage them to make further progress.  Older children gain the skills they need for their next stage of learning, including school. For example, they work cooperatively with other children and learn to take turns and share.  Children easily access resources and make independent choices during their play.  The childminder makes good use of ongoing self-evaluation to make improvements to her service.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not keep parents well informed about the development progress their children are making. She does not make the best possible use of information sharing to help parents to understand how they can support their children's learning at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen partnerships with parents so that they are kept fully up to date with children's learning and development, to help them extend learning even further at home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the interactions between the childminder and the children, and assessed the impact this has on the children's learning.  The inspector viewed the areas of the home used by the children.  The inspector asked the childminder questions relating to children's development and her understanding of the safeguarding requirements.  The inspector read references from parents and took their views into account.  The inspector checked relevant documentation, including the paediatric first-aid qualification and public liability insurance.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates a clear understanding of how to keep children safe. She has completed relevant training and receives updates from the local authority to help keep her good awareness up to date. She makes good use of online information to gain ideas to help improve her teaching. She also shares examples of good practice and suggestions for activities with other childminders. The childminder evaluates her practice well. This has helped her to identify that she would like to further develop the ways she seeks the views of parents, to help her to continuously drive for improvement.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses children's interests to help extend their learning. For example, she uses their interest in cars to teach them to identify different colours and to count how many cars they see. She supports very young children's communication very well. For instance, she talks to babies constantly and responds to their babbles as they attempt to make sounds and communicate. Children are working comfortably within the range of development expected of them for their age. Effective partnership working with other settings that children attend enables the childminder to share information about children's learning and development. This helps to provide continuity in the care and learning that children receive.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children build very strong relationships with the childminder. They are settled and secure in her care, which helps to build good levels of emotional well-being. She understands her role in keeping children safe and protecting them from harm. She completes daily risk assessments and encourages children to be aware of possible hazards. For example, children learn about potential risks during outings to the local parks and learn the importance of staying behind the barrier when feeding ducks when they visit the pond.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress for their starting points and are prepared well for their future learning. For example, they learn about the importance of following simple rules and understand boundaries for behaviour. Older children have many opportunities to develop their independence through completing simple tasks. For instance, they take care of their personal care routines, such as using the toilet, and understand the importance of following good hygiene routines.
