Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the interactions between the childminder and children as they engaged in activities together. The inspector engaged with the children and spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at some of the childminder's documentation, including children's individual records, suitability and training certificates and some of the childminder's written policies. The inspector took account of parents' comments and views from the questionnaires provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of her role in protecting children. For example, she is aware of potential signs and symptoms that may cause her to have concerns about a child and she knows the procedures for reporting such concerns. The childminder keeps up to date with childcare practices through training and reading relevant literature. In addition, she regularly liaises with other professionals. The childminder reflects on her practice to identify aspects for further improvement and she has a clear vision for future developments. This has had a positive impact on the quality experiences she provides for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of how young children learn and she plans the learning environments well to meet their individual needs and interests. For example, as children play in the outdoor environment, they have opportunities to explore making marks and practise their early writing skills. They enjoy messy play as they explore texture using various malleable materials, such as shaving foam, gel, paints and various foods. The childminder uses these opportunity to introduce mathematical concepts, such as numbers and colours. She supports children's language development well. For example, she engages them in conversations, introducing new words, which she encourages them to repeat. She supports children's interest in books and reads to them as part of the daily routine.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm, welcoming and comfortable environment where children feel at home and build close bonds with her. The childminder supports their personal, social and emotional development well as she encourages them to become confident, independent and active learners. Children move around their environment freely, making choices about their play. The childminder promotes health well. For example, she provides healthy meals and snacks which children thoroughly enjoy. She adopts children's sleep routines from home and plans regular opportunities for children to engage in physical activities and play outdoors.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and they are typically well-prepared for the next stage of their learning. They are enthusiastic, inquisitive and show a keen interest in exploring new things. They display good physical skills. For example, they freely move around the outdoor environment using the large equipment, such as the wheeled toys, the trampoline and balls.
