This provision is good
The childminder observes children's play and monitors their development. Children make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for their move on to school. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. She adjusts how she talks as appropriate for each child to help develop their emerging language ability. Children visit different parts of their community, including the Chinese and Polish supermarkets. They are learning about people, similarities and differences between themselves and others. Children have good opportunities to explore and learn new information about the natural world and living things. For example, they enjoy visits to public aquariums to observe tropical fish, bugs and penguins.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not found highly successful ways to engage parents consistently in her effective self-evaluation to help her identify further areas for improvement. The childminder does not consistently target her ongoing professional development to further enhance the quality of teaching and learning. The childminder does not routinely share information with parents about what children are learning next in order to help them guide their children's learning at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends child protection training and has a good awareness of local safeguarding procedures. She keeps up to date with changes to legislation and has a secure knowledge of the wider issues surrounding child protection. The childminder understands her responsibility with regard to protecting children who may be at risk from harmful situations. She maintains a clean and safe home and takes appropriate steps to help minimise any possible hazards to children. The childminder is aware of the benefits of sharing information with other colleagues. She takes part in video conferences to find ways to support children to be emotionally ready for their future education.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy making sounds and experiment with ways of changing them. For example, toddlers and older children create music by banging household objects with spoons and other tools. Older children use language to describe the sounds they make, such as loud, and follow instructions to make quiet noises. The childminder promotes children's listening and attention skills well. Older children have fun playing guessing games and the childminder uses gestures as additional cues to support children's success when required. They listen attentively in a range of situations and enthusiastically respond to questions about their experiences.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have occasions to develop their personal and social skills. They attend playgroups and build confidence to make new friends with children of a similar age. Children enjoy visits to the local library and café. They learn about the world and gain an understanding of different occupations and people that help them. Children enjoy plenty of fresh air and exercise. They visit duck ponds and test their physical skills when using climbing areas at the local park. Children learn the importance of safe hygiene routines and healthy eating and drinking habits. They are encouraged to be independent and manage their personal care needs relative to their age. Children's behaviour is good and they are learning to share and take turns with their friends.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy role play and are provided with opportunities to re-enact their real-life experiences. They show an interest in toys with buttons and flaps and are beginning to learn how to operate them. Children move their body to the sounds that musical toys make. They are encouraged to count and learn how to select a small number of objects from a group through everyday routines. These skills support children in becoming motivated learners in readiness for their next stage in learning.
