This provision is good
The childminder is a natural communicator with children. She is very attentive to their needs and plans a wide range of stimulating experiences based on their interests. This helps to ensure that children are motivated to make good progress. The childminder offers children a home-from-home environment. She works closely with parents to ensure that children are well supported with the move from their home. They have good relationships with the childminder and other members of her family. Children behave well. The childminder has clear expectations. She teaches children how to respect others. This has a positive impact on their play and learning. The childminder makes good use of the local environment to extend children's learning. For example, they are taken to stimulating group activities where they meet similarly aged children. This helps to build on their social skills and they learn how to interact

positively with others. The childminder reflects on her practice, and the views of parents and children are valued. The childminder is keen to extend her knowledge more, such as through attending training related to various aspects of children's learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors. She assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation of the activities provided during the inspection with the childminder. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including children's learning journals and records. She spoke to the childminder about her aims for the provision and her policies. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults living on the premises. The inspector spoke to the children and engaged in their play at appropriate times during the inspection. She obtained the views of parents through documentation left with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her role and responsibility to ensure children are safe. She has a secure understanding of the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about children. She is aware of changes to safeguarding legislation and reviews her policy to reflect these changes. The childminder observes children as they play and she regularly assesses the progress they are making in their learning. This includes the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. She provides parents with daily information about their children's day and their overall development. Together, they discuss and implement ideas to support the next steps in children's learning and their overall needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder follows children's lead, enhancing their self-chosen activities. For example, children have fun filling and emptying containers with water. The childminder plays alongside them, helping to extend children's language development effectively. For example, she provides a running commentary and introduces new words which toddlers attempt to copy. All children enjoy taking part in the well-organised art and craft activities. Younger children concentrate for long periods as they learn how to successfully use equipment, such as glue pens. Older children delight in making items linked to their interests, such as treasure maps and telescopes. These are some opportunities the childminder provides to support children's ideas and their early handwriting skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children move freely around the childminder's home. They enjoy choosing items to play with from the variety of high-quality toys and equipment. The childminder helps children to know about leading a healthy lifestyle. She shares her passion for nature with the children. They learn about wildlife and how the fruits in the garden grow and are used in the nutritious meals provided. Children follow good hygiene routines. They are provided with plenty of opportunities for exercise and fresh air. Children learn to keep themselves safe. For example, the childminder teaches toddlers how to successfully climb into the seat of a large wheeled toy.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn a range of skills that helps prepare them for their next stage of their learning, such as starting school. They learn to manage their personal hygiene and are taught to put on their own coats and shoes. Children enjoy listening to stories and show an interest in early reading. Their social skills are promoted well and they enjoy frequent purposeful outings to mix with others in a variety of different environments.
