p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder does not maintain an accurate daily record of the children being cared for and their hours of attendance. This is also a breach of the requirements of the Childcare Register. The childminder does not consistently help all children to learn about the importance of eating healthy food.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder has developed close relationships with children and their families. Children settle well and are happy and confident in the childminder's welcoming home. The childminder gets to know children extremely well and ensures they have plenty of opportunities to develop and explore their own interests. For example, she provides a good range of age-appropriate resources and regularly takes children on outings to museums, parks and other places of interest. Partnerships with parents are effective. Parents comment on how well the childminder supports their children's learning and development. For example, she helps children to complete homework and to research information for school projects.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of the childminder's interactions and children's engagement and enjoyment during activities. The inspector had discussions with the childminder at various points during the inspection. The inspector spoke to parents and children, and took account of their views. The inspector looked at a sample of the childminder's documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder does not keep a daily record of children's hours of attendance as required. Nevertheless, she understands that regular or prolonged periods of absence may give cause for concern. Therefore, there is no significant impact on children's well-being. Other aspects of children's safety are promoted well. The childminder knows the signs that might indicate a child is at risk of harm and understands how to report any concerns to the appropriate authorities. She has updated her training to ensure she understands the possible risks to children from extreme ideas and online threats. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder reflects upon her practice and obtains regular feedback from parents and children. She ensures that planned improvements benefit the children and families using her service.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children thoroughly enjoy being with the childminder and spend their time purposefully engaged in a range of activities which complements their learning at school. The good range of resources is well organised and easily accessible. Children have plenty of choice about what they play with. Children learn about the world around them in a wide variety of interesting and meaningful ways. For example, they observe the creatures living in the childminder's garden and learn to how to grow flowers and vegetables. Children delight in learning new skills and carrying out small tasks. For instance, they watched closely as the childminder showed them how to prune the dead leaves from plants, then enthusiastically tried this for themselves. Children have good opportunities to be creative. For example, they used various resources to create colourful butterfly mobiles.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The weakness in leadership and management does not fully ensure children's welfare. Although the childminder provides some nutritious food options, such as fresh fruit, she does not support all children as well as possible to develop healthy eating habits. Children enjoy daily fresh air and exercise in the childminder's garden and on regular outings. The childminder has developed effective relationships with schools that children attend. She ensures that that there is a good exchange of information and passes on details about children's care and learning to parents. This helps to promote continuity between the different settings and home. The childminder is calm and patient, and she consistently explains to children what is expected of them. Children behave well.
