This provision is good
Children develop a strong emotional attachment with the childminder and are happy and content in her care. The childminder is calm and caring and children relate well to her. The childminder purposefully takes children to local groups where they can develop good social skills. Children learn to mix with others and to embrace new situations with confidence. The childminder uses her knowledge and skills of child development to promote children's learning. Arrangements for reviewing children's development are generally effective. The childminder plans activities and experiences which promote children's individual learning needs and interests. This ensures that children are motivated, engaged and keen to learn. The childminder has created a welcoming and accessible learning environment where children can make independent play choices.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is not yet fully effective in engaging with parents to involve them when identifying and planning for children's next steps in learning. Although self-evaluation is generally effective, the childminder is not making the very best use of information gathering to closely assess the impact of changes to her practice on outcomes for children.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

involve parents even more in identifying and planning for their child's next steps in learning strengthen self-evaluation systems further to ensure that all information gathered about the impact of changes to practice is used more rigorously to further improve outcomes for children.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is alert to the signs of possible abuse and neglect. Recent safeguarding training has ensured she knows exactly what action to take if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder has effective procedures in place to minimise risks and keep children secure. She organises important childminding documents effectively and securely and ensures that she keeps updated with relevant early years information. The childminder understands the importance of working closely with other professionals to address specific learning needs. She seeks the views of children and parents to support her service evaluation.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children have independent access to a wide range of age-appropriate resources and equipment. As a result, children are motivated and eager to learn. Assessments are completed regularly and identify next steps for learning. This ensures that planned experiences build upon children's prior learning. Children develop their understanding of the world and improve their small-muscle skills. They enjoy exploring and investigating. They push buttons and turn knobs to find out what happens and how things work. The childminder chats animatedly with children as they play together. She sensitively repeats and sounds words back to young children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a homely, caring environment. Children are happy and confident and have a good relationship with the childminder. Relevant information is collected from parents about the requirements of new children. This enables the childminder to settle children well and to meet their individual needs. Children's good health and well-being are successfully promoted. They learn about good hygiene practices, enjoy healthy snacks and participate in a variety of physical activities, outdoors and in the local community. Children learn to behave well. The childminder is an excellent role model and praises children often. This helps them gain confidence and positive self-esteem.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children progress well for their age and stage of development. They develop good communication and language skills and learn to express their needs. Children follow instructions well and have good opportunities to develop their interest in books and stories. Children enjoy participating in imaginary play and they use a range of small-world resources. They frequently practise good independence and self-care skills, relative to their age. The childminder provides children with age-appropriate tasks. Children are eager to help and demonstrate that they are very familiar with the daily routine. All children are developing skills that will enhance their future learning well and make good progress in relation to their starting points.
