to keep up to date with changes in legislation.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always encourage children's understanding of why it is important to follow good hygiene routines. Although the childminder uses self-evaluation well to make changes to her practice, she does not seek the views of parents to involve them in the ongoing evaluation of her provision, in order to build further on children's experiences.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder engaging with children in a range of learning activities. The inspector jointly observed and evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the childminder's suitability. The inspector took account of parents' views through reading written references.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends regular child protection training. She is aware of the procedure to follow to contact relevant agencies should she have any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder is aware of her duty to keep children safe and protect them from harm. The environment is clean, safe and secure. The childminder has a good awareness of each child's development. She monitors their progress closely so that she is able to respond to any gaps in their learning. Parents are happy with the service provided by the childminder. They describe her as, 'Incredibly kind and caring'.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder obtains good information from parents about children's current capabilities when they first start. She builds on this information with her own observations and assessments. The childminder uses this information well to plan activities that support children's next steps in learning. She encourages children to do things for themselves. They happily help to tidy away the toys they are not playing with so they can move on to the next activity. The childminder spends time listening to children and asks them questions about their family and what activities they have done at home. This helps children to recall past events and talk about meaningful experiences. Children use their imaginations well. They practise taking care of their babies using the dolls provided. The childminder encourages children to match jigsaw pieces together, offering gentle guidance so they manage to complete these independently. The childminder gives children lots of

praise and encouragement. Children develop a 'have-a-go' attitude to learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. The childminder is a positive role model who shares clear expectations and boundaries with children. She speaks calmly and positively to children and helps them to learn about sharing, taking turns and using good manners. The childminder takes children to local community groups where she meets with other childminders and their children. This provides children with the opportunity to socialise in larger groups and make new friendships. Children have regular opportunities for fresh air and exercise. They learn to take managed risks when negotiating play equipment in the garden.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are observant, curious and ask questions. They articulate their needs and wants well. Children are keen to practise their literacy skills. For example, they confidently use the pictures in books to help them pretend to read a story to the childminder. All children are gaining key skills in readiness for their eventual move to school.
