The childminder has a clear understanding of safeguarding, reinforced by her thorough safeguarding policies and procedures. She knows the process to follow in the event of a concern regarding the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder ensures the ongoing suitability of everyone living in her home. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has the necessary skills to support children's care and learning effectively. She effectively monitors the quality of her practice and children's development. For example, she regularly tracks children's learning and ensures they make good progress. The childminder works very well with other professionals to help provide continuity for children and help enhance their learning experiences further. Parents comment how happy they are with the level of care and support provided by the childminder, how settled their children are and that they enjoy their time at the setting.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports all children effectively in their play. She encourages children's listening, speaking and communication skills very well. For example, the childminder talks about fish and ask questions about their experiences, such as feeding the fish. She uses words, such as 'scales', to describe the outer body of a fish and help extend their vocabulary and knowledge of other species. The childminder provides interesting opportunities to support children's early reading skills. For example, she reads stories, and encourages children to join in with repetitive words and verses. She supports children to write for a purpose and offers a good range of experiences to help them master this skill.

p.3

The childminder provides a well-resourced and welcoming space to help children feel comfortable and want to explore. She is calm and attentive to the children, effectively supporting their emotional well-being. The childminder helps children to feel safe and confident to share their needs, such as when they are tired and would like a story. The childminder praises children's efforts and achievements, encourages their self-esteem, and helps them to feel valued. She helps children learn about others and to understand similarities and differences between people.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and feel safe in the environment as they play. They are interested and motivated to explore. They develop good imagination, for example, as they pretend to be shopkeepers. Children are independent and becoming very sociable with a wider set of friends. They develop good concentration skills as they persevere with self-chosen activities. Children make good progress from their starting points. They are well prepared for the future and, eventually, their move to school.
