This provision is good
The experienced childminder offers an inviting play and learning environment. Children show that they feel happy and secure in her company. Partnerships with parents are effective. Parents describe the childminder as professional, caring and dedicated. They feel well informed about their children's progress. Parents comment that the childminder praises and encourages children. Children are proud of their achievements when they tell their parents about their day. The childminder shows that she is interested in what children say and children are keen to involve her in their play. They hold lively conversations that help to promote children's communication and language development well. The childminder demonstrates commitment to continuously improving the quality of her provision. She seeks out and implements advice and support from a range of sources. She reviews her policies and procedures in line with changes to requirements.
p.1
This provision is good
Children make good progress in their development. The childminder makes regular observations of their learning. She accurately assesses children's progress and development and plans activities that challenge and interest them.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not establish fully effective partnerships with other settings that children attend. She does not always share information regularly enough or in sufficient detail, to help them work more consistently together to meet children's needs.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

share more detailed information on a regular basis about children's progress with other settings that they attend, to work more consistently together to meet children's needs.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during daily routines and activities. She assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed a planned activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as evidence of the childminder's suitability to work with children. The inspector took account of the views of parents and carers.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder demonstrates her strong ambition to promote children's well-being and progress. She makes changes that improve the quality of her provision and teaching. For example, the childminder recognised that she spent too much time writing observations. She adopted an alternative approach that enables her to monitor children's progress effectively and allows more time for teaching. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder undertakes regular training in child protection matters. She knows what to do if she has any concerns about the children and if an allegation is made against her. The childminder identifies and minimises hazards well in her home to provide a safe environment for children to explore safely.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children's interests and what they need to learn next. She demonstrates a good understanding of how children learn and they become deeply involved in the activities she provides. For example, she supports children well to enthusiastically explore a jumble of cooked spaghetti. They discover and read the plastic numbers hidden in it. They cut it and find out that now some pieces are longer and some are shorter. This helps to promote children's knowledge and understanding of numbers and measurement. Children develop role play that demonstrates their understanding of the world. For example, they decide that dolls need cooler clothes because the weather is so hot.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a wide range of accessible resources that she uses well to support her teaching. For example, she observes that children find threading laces through buttons too difficult. She finds some cotton reels so that they can practise their threading skills successfully. The childminder teaches children to be safe in the hot weather. For example, she encourages them to drink more water and tells them why it is important. Children learn to be kind and caring. They take turns and willingly offer help to others. Children follow well-established rules and routines that help to promote their independence and positive behaviour.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes to learning that prepare them well to start school. Children develop independence in using the toilet. They wash their hands properly and know why this is important. They confidently find the things they need for their games. Children count and they begin to understand concepts of quantity and relative size. They try hard, persevere and ask for help if something is too difficult. Children know some rules for staying safe in the sun. For example, they always wear a hat on sunny days. Children initiate and take part in conversations about ideas and events. They ask questions about why things happen.
