This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
Not all accident records are readily available for inspection, as required. Children are not helped enough to develop their knowledge of the environment beyond the nursery or to gain a deeper understanding of the wider community.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Children enjoy coming to the nursery. They form trustful relationships with key persons and other staff, who are attentive to their individual needs. Staff provide a balance of adult-led activities and those that children can freely choose. They have successfully addressed the recommendation from the previous inspection to support children's understanding of simple technology. Children make good progress in their learning, overall. Provider and staff establish meaningful partnerships with parents. They keep them well informed and encourage their involvement in children's learning. Parents speaks positively about the staff team and the effects being at the nursery has had on their children's learning and development.

improve the system for keeping records so that they are accessible and available at all times. 19/05/2017

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
increase opportunities for children to explore their surroundings and enhance their understanding of the key features in their environment and the wider community.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the staff's interaction with the children. The inspector spoke to staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection and held a meeting with the provider. The inspector looked at staff records, assessment reports, the record of risk assessments and a range of policies. The inspector took account of the views of parents spoken to on the day of the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding is effective. The provider implements appropriate procedures to check staff's suitability. The provider carries out daily risk assessments to minimise hazards to children. In addition, she ensures ratios are met to help keep children safe. The provider and staff have a suitable knowledge of child protection matters and know how to report any welfare concerns. Although the provider has the most recent accident records to hand, at the inspection she was unable to locate the accident records for previous months. This is a breach of requirements, but in this case it does not have a significant impact on the safety or well-being of children. The provider understands the procedures for dealing with complaints. She implements suitable systems to develop staff's childcare skills. The provider adequately reviews the quality of the provision and has identified some targets to improve outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff understand how children develop and learn. They gather information from parents about their child's stage of development at the start of their placement. They use this information with their regular assessments to plan activities to support children's learning. Children's language development is progressing well. They learn to recognise numbers, count a quantity of items and learn to measure by length. Staff make daily use of the immediate outdoor space to support children's physical development, their imagination and exploration of the natural environment. However, children do not have enough opportunities to learn about the wider environment.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The staff get to know the children well and support new children to settle in effectively. Children's behaviour is good. They learn to share and take turns during activities. Children enjoy nutritious snacks and help themselves to water during the day. They learn the importance of good hygiene.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They show good independence skills. Children develop their early literacy skills well. They can recognise their names in print and are beginning to link some letters to the sounds they represent. Some children can write their names. They acquire necessary skills in readiness for when they go to school.
