The childminder successfully follows children's lead when joining in with their play. The childminder makes regular and accurate assessments of children. She uses this assessment process to ensure that any gaps in learning are quickly identified. The childminder places a high importance on ensuring children are safe in her home. expectations for behaviour and why they are important.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is not strongly focused on helping children to think for themselves and to follow their own ideas when being creative. The childminder does not always provide enough opportunities for children to independently explore using all of their senses.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector was given a tour of the areas of the home used for childminding purposes. The inspector looked at children's records, a sample of policies and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection and took account of the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder's commitment to regular safeguarding training equips her with the most up-to-date knowledge of child protection procedures. She knows how to keep children safe and the actions to take if she is concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder monitors the quality of the setting and children's learning very well. Parents comment on the professional service provided by this warm and caring childminder. The childminder considers the views of parents and children when making changes to her practice in order to help raise outcomes for children. She regularly checks the progress children make. Any gaps in children's learning are quickly identified and addressed.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified childminder uses fun and effective teaching strategies to capture children's interests. She promotes children's physical, social and communication skills well. For example, children experiment with sounds as they bang drums and blow into harmonicas. Outdoors, children concentrate as they hunt in the garden for bugs. The childminder makes the most of these opportunities to extend children's mathematical development and knowledge of living things. For example, she talks to them about how may caterpillars they have collected. The childminder's teaching is good and she understands how young children learn. She skilfully reshapes activities in order to introduce all areas of learning. For example, during story sessions she introduces early mathematics, using pictures to help children count with her. Children concentrate and are eager to join in.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children to develop their independence skills, which helps equip them well for their future learning. Children confidently make choices about their play, which also supports their independence. The childminder offers consistent praise and encouragement to children, which helps to support their confidence and self-esteem. The childminder is a good role model, demonstrating good manners, and supports children to learn social skills, such as sharing. Children are learning about healthy lifestyles and have regular access to physical exercise in the garden or on outings in the local environment. The childminder helps children learn how to keep themselves safe through positive care practices, daily routines and activities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress and are developing the skills to support them in their move on to school. For example, they select resources and attend to some of their own needs independently. Children show a desire to explore freely and independently. They are clearly happy and communicate their excitement while singing familiar songs and rhymes. Children happily share information about their day with their parents, such as the importance of practising a fire drill.
