This provision is good
The childminder builds strong bonds with children, who are happy and well-settled in her care. Children are confident and develop good independence skills, which prepares them well for their next stage in learning, including their move to school. The childminder has a good understanding of how to observe, assess and plan for children's next steps in learning. She regularly shares information with other early years settings that children attend, to support their good progress. The childminder has successfully built strong partnerships with parents that help to support children's learning. For instance, she regularly discusses children's next steps in learning and provides parents with ideas for activities at home. The childminder places a strong focus on promoting younger children's speaking and listening skills. Children rapidly learn new words and are confident communicators. The childminder teaches children about the natural world through interesting, hands-on

experiences. For instance, children enjoy learning to plant seeds and water vegetables, which helps them learn about growth and change.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently provide children with enough time to explore and investigate during activities, to develop their play and learning experiences fully. The childminder does not sharply focus her professional development plans to extend her knowledge and good teaching skills to the highest level.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and children's learning. The inspector toured the childminder's home and garden. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and looked at a selection of children's records and safeguarding procedures, and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process. The inspector took account of the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her roles and responsibilities in keeping children safe. She keeps her knowledge and skills up to date through regular training. For instance, she knows how to recognise and respond to concerns about extreme views or behaviours. The childminder regularly reviews the quality of her setting. She has developed some clear ideas to improve her provision. For instance, since registration she has developed strong relationships with local schools, and has a good understanding of the skills older children will need to be ready for school. Parents speak highly of the childminder and value the good-quality learning environment she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides children with a wide variety of learning experiences which engages and motivates their play. The childminder has a strong focus on developing children's speech, and makes good use of opportunities to extend their vocabulary. For example, she shows younger children the spider she finds. When children say 'bee' she explains 'it is a spider', clearly sounding out this word. Children repeat this new word back to her. The childminder provides a wide range of activities which helps children to gain good physical coordination skills. For instance, she teaches children to scoop soil and plant carrot seeds, to help develop their small-muscle skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are relaxed and happy in the childminder's welcoming home. They develop good relationships with the childminder, who responds to their individual care needs well. For instance, she recognises when children are hungry and provides them with healthy snacks and drinks, to meet their physical needs appropriately. All children are keen to be independent and the childminder promotes this well in her setting. For instance, younger children choose snacks, carry bowls and cups, and learn how to feed themselves independently. Children behave well. The childminder teaches children to share toys and resources. They learn to value and respect the needs of their friends.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. Older children learn a range of skills that helps them to make a good start in their next stage in learning and prepares them well for their move to school. For instance, they develop good literacy skills, learning to link the sounds of letters and words that match confidently. Younger children learn how to count, use some numbers in their play, and gain good physical skills. For instance, they learn how to push themselves along on ride-on toys using their feet. All children are keen to learn and develop a willingness to try new experiences.
