This provision is good
Children feel at home with this experienced childminder. They settle quickly into her care and enjoy the homely environment and plentiful resources. The childminder promotes children's personal, social and emotional development well. The childminder has developed secure links with other local settings and schools. She shares information with them about children's likes, interests and development. This promotes consistency in children's learning. The childminder effectively observes and monitors children's learning. She gathers information from parents about what their child knows and can do. This helps her to support children's learning from the start of their placement. The childminder shows a desire to improve her skills and knowledge through training and continuous professional development opportunities. This has a positive impact on outcomes for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although partnerships with parents are good overall, the childminder does not consistently gather precise information about children's ongoing learning at home, in order to better complement their learning. The childminder does not always pause for children to think about the questions she has asked, before she asks another question or provides an answer for them.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and discussed the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to the children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder fully understands her responsibility to protect children and keep them safe from harm. She knows the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder manages her provision well and is updating her records and policies to ensure they continue to underpin practice and promote children's welfare. She assesses risks in her home and on outings, reflecting on the needs of each child. The childminder completes the progress check for children between the ages of two and three years. The childminder talks to parents daily when they drop off and collect their children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows each child well. She provides activities that spark their interests, enabling them to build a secure foundation to extend their language, physical and social skills. The childminder models good language and communication, supporting young children to develop their abilities. They imitate sounds and gestures and begin to use new vocabulary. The new puppet theatre provides a good opportunity for children to develop their imaginations and share familiar rhymes and stories. They are also keen to continue their use of puppets during story time, demonstrating their enjoyment and developing confidence as their share their own ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has a gentle and nurturing approach and children are happy and secure. The childminder is a good role model and she teaches children to be polite and respectful. Children are responsive and their behaviour and understanding about how to keep themselves safe are good. Children learn to meet their personal needs efficiently. They are confident in doing things for themselves. For example, they put their own shoes on and are beginning to manage their own toileting needs without additional support. Children develop their social skills well. They have ample opportunities to meet with other children of similar age in activities outside the home. The childminder provides children with regular opportunities for outdoor play as part of their growing awareness of healthy lifestyles. They practise their physical skills as they play in the garden or enjoy a walk along the canal.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and develop a range of skills in preparation for the eventual move on to school. Children develop their understanding of the local community. For example, they visit the library, children's centre and eagerly join in with special events. Children are confident communicators, they talk with each other and share ideas. Their self-esteem is high and they develop positive attitudes as they learn to respect and care for themselves and others.
