This provision is good
Children are curious and investigative in their play. The childminder teaches them about a wide range of simple scientific ideas. For example, how to use magnifying glasses to look closely at insects they find in the garden. The childminder is a positive role model. She is calm and reassuring, which helps children to settle. Children are happy in her care and behave well. Partnerships with parents and other settings children attend are effective. The childminder exchanges information regularly, which helps them to all work together in supporting children's needs. Furthermore, this supports children's confidence and emotional security well. The childminder monitors children's learning and development effectively. This helps her to identify and support any gaps in their learning to ensure they continue to make good progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not maintained her paediatric first-aid qualification. This is also a breach of the Childcare Register requirements. At times, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to extend older children's knowledge of mathematics in all areas. The childminder does not routinely build on children's literacy interests in all areas where they play, to fully support those children who prefer learning outside.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children playing inside and outside. The inspector toured parts of the childminder's home used for childminding purposes. The inspector spoke to parents and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection and discussed how she organises her setting and plans for children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including suitability checks and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a secure understanding of her strengths and areas for development. She identifies and plans for improvement to support positive outcomes for children. Overall, she keeps her knowledge and skills up to date well through research and courses, such as about how to support children's emotional security. Although she has not maintained her paediatric first-aid qualification when it recently expired, she keeps her knowledge up to date through online forums and discussion with other professionals. She knows how to deal with accidents children may have and has relevant training booked. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is knowledgeable about ways to identify and report any concerns she has about children's safety and welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands the children in her care very well. She gathers relevant information, such as children's likes and dislikes, to tailor activities that appeal to their interests and extends their development needs. This encourages children to enjoy learning. The childminder uses effective interactions to help children progress. For example, to help build confidence and self-esteem, she frequently praises children's achievements, such as when they fix blocks together to make a tower.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very happy and sociable. They joyfully greet their friends as they arrive and are excited show their toys. They develop good language skills and can express their needs to the childminder confidently, such as when they are hungry. The childminder teaches children to keep safe. For example, she reminds them to wear sunhats in warmer weather. She builds on their understanding further and helps them to understand that 'we become poorly if we do not drink enough water when it is hot'. Children complete simple tasks independently, such as putting on their shoes. This helps to extend their confidence and self-esteem, and shows they feel secure.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They enjoy activities across all areas of learning. Children mix with others well and develop good social skills, such as apologising when they accidently knocked over the construction materials. They develop competent physical skills. For example, they play on swings and use their larger muscles to push themselves higher and use their smaller muscles to play with blocks, helping to build good hand-to-eye coordination. They are prepared well for their next stages in learning and eventual move to school.
