This provision is good

 The childminder and her assistant provide a calm and welcoming learning environment where children feel safe and secure. Children are confident to ask for help or support. Their behaviour is good.  The childminder plans and provides good experiences to help children learn and develop. Children make good progress in relation to their individual starting points and capabilities. Children are ready for the next stages in their learning and development, including starting school.  Children enjoy the outdoor play. For example, they climb the apparatus and slide safely and manoeuvre cars and bicycles with confidence.  Parents are positive about the reliable service and the valuable support they receive from this attentive childminder.  The childminder regularly assesses the practice of her assistant and provides her with guidance to ensure she meets the learning needs of all children effectively.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not provide enough opportunities to deepen children's language and thinking further.  Occasionally, children do not have access to sufficient experiences to broaden their understanding of the different people and their communities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 offer more experiences to help extend children's language and thinking to aid their learning even further  broaden the range of opportunities to help children learn more about different people and their communities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children playing indoors and outdoors.  The inspector sampled the childminder's policies, procedures, risk assessments and children's development records.  The inspector discussed the childminder's procedures to safeguard children, and her process for reflecting on her practice, including evidence of the suitability of adults living or working on the premises.  The inspector took into account the views, comments and suggestions of parents and children.  The inspector discussed the self-evaluation form with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended training to help her understand how to protect children in her care. For example, she has established and implemented a range of comprehensive policies and procedures that underpins the safe and efficient management of her provision. She attends well to each child and helps narrow gaps in their learning. The childminder shares development records with parents so they know what their children can do in the setting and how to support their learning at home. She listens to the views of parents, children and outside professionals. She reflects on her practice using self-evaluation as an effective tool to improve her service and outcomes for all children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder collates information from parents on what their children know, can do and need to learn next. She uses such information, along with her ongoing observations, to plan interesting activities to motivate children to learn. Children have a positive attitude to learning and confidently participate in the full range of activities. They benefit well from activities that are led by adults and those they freely access. Children use their creativity well. For example, they are excited to use empty bottles and dry pasta shapes to make shakers. They enjoy play dough and learn to roll, pat and cut into different shapes. Children enjoy books and make good comments on characters and events in stories. Children engage well in songs and rhymes, and consider the views of others.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children develop positive relationships with the childminder and her assistant. The childminder helps children know how to behave respectfully. For example, children learn that 'sharing is caring'. They take turns with resources and toys, and respond well to instructions. The childminder helps children adopt healthy living. For example, children know that water is good for them and they need to wash their hands to get rid of germs. The childminder carries out regular checks on her home to keep children safe and secure in her care. Through regular emergency evacuation drills, for example, the childminder discusses the purpose and the importance of this to their health and safety.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress and any gaps in their learning are rapidly closing. Young children learn to socialise with others and handle resources safely. Children are confident to express their ideas and feelings to others. They learn to sort and match objects, and use good mathematical language to describe shapes around them. Children are aware of the changes that happen to the weather around them. For example, they know to stay in the shade during the heat.
