This provision is good
The childminder provides children with an interesting range of activities and resources that engages them quickly and motivates them to learn. Children make good progress. The childminder has good partnerships with parents. She has worked hard to find effective ways to share information about their children's learning and for parents to respond. Together, they provide a consistent approach to children's ongoing development. The childminder is warm and nurturing. Children have a strong bond with her, and feel safe and secure in her home. They talk to the childminder with respect and seek her out for support. The childminder has successful partnerships with other settings that children attend and local schools. She actively shares information about children's individual needs and works with other professionals to support children's learning and development. The childminder strives to improve. She has made good progress towards previous

recommendations and has continued to develop the provision for children. For example, she has adapted the garden to use in all weathers for children to learn outdoors.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Sometimes, the childminder does not give children enough time to think and respond to her questions or contribute to conversations independently. The childminder does not build on children's imaginary play to provide challenges to help extend their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector discussed children's progress with the childminder and viewed some written assessments to help track their progress. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children and quality of teaching indoors. The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding. The inspector viewed written feedback from parents to gain their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about children's safety or well-being. She ensures she keeps her knowledge of current guidelines and legislation up to date. For example, she completes online refresher courses and networks closely with other childminders and professionals. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has developed as a practitioner since her last inspection. She has made good use of others' knowledge and expertise, which has had a positive impact on her practice. For example, parents are now fully involved in their children's learning and share information with the childminder to help her support their development further while they are in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children well and has a good understanding of their current stage of development and interests. For example, she knows babies are not so confident to join in messy and creative activities, so she is encouraging them in this area of learning. All children enjoyed exploring rice and were encouraged to feel the textures. Older children confidently scooped and transferred the rice into different containers while the childminder counted aloud for them to hear. Children enjoy listening to and contributing to stories. The childminder reads enthusiastically and encourages children to select their favourite books for her to read to them. Children laugh with the childminder as she reads to them and they engage well.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are polite and well mannered. They understand what the childminder expects from them. For example, children help to tidy away when they have finished with their toys, share resources and are kind to each other. The childminder constantly praises children, which has a positive impact on their behaviour. Children learn about the importance of showing compassion towards others. For example, they spent time decorating a card for one of their friends who is unwell. Children have daily opportunities to go outside to develop their large physical skills and take part in exercise. They enjoy walks in the local area, use local play parks and the facilities at the local Children and Family Centre.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make consistently good progress in all areas of learning, taking into account their starting points. They learn a good range of skills in preparation for their future learning and move to school. Children are confident and are learning to be independent. For example, older children feed themselves and clear away afterwards. Children are keen to learn new skills, such as using scissors to make different marks. They persevere and concentrate until they achieve their desired goal and are proud of their achievements.
