Inspection activities
The inspector talked with the childminder and children at various times during the inspection. The inspector viewed the premises, toys and equipment. The inspector evaluated an adult-led activity and considered the impact of the childminder's quality of teaching on children's learning. The inspector took account of written testimonials. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all adults living on the premises. She discussed the childminder's policies and procedures, including safeguarding.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes all mandatory training and updates her knowledge through various means, including undertaking research. She has a good understanding of her role in protecting children. She is clear about the procedures to follow in the event that she has any child protection concerns. The childminder understands the importance of working in partnership with other early years professionals. She shares relevant information with them when required, in order to support children's continued learning and development. Parents comment in writing that the childminder supports children and families to a high standard. They appreciate her interactions with their children and are happy with the care she provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a broad range of good quality resources for children of all ages. They are inspired to join in with various activities in the childminder's converted outdoor play area. Young children enjoy sensory experiences. They look at multi-coloured lights and watch animated nursery songs in a custom-built cinema room. Children practise their communication skills as they talk to the childminder about farmyard animals and trees. Young children develop an understanding of early mathematics. They enjoy repeatedly grouping toy cars on a slope and giggle as they watch them roll down.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is friendly and approachable. She is a positive role model and gently reminds children of the behaviour she expects of them. As a result, children learn to behave well. Children are self-assured as they confidently move around the childminder's home. They make choices about what they wish to play with. Very young children's care needs are swiftly and sensitively attended to. Children have daily opportunities to practise physical skills during outings to the neighbouring park. They play in the garden and walk to see the nearby swans, ducks and horses. Children are taught to wash their hands regularly after messy activities and before eating. They are offered healthy snacks and drinks regularly.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children settle quickly when they first attend the setting. They are happy, engrossed in activities and clearly enjoy their time with the childminder. Young children develop the skills and attributes that they will need for their next stages in learning. For example, they learn to cooperate, follow instructions, listen and behave well. Children are motivated to explore and investigate as they complete various stimulating activities. They learn to recognise their own written name, count in sequence and follow familiar everyday routines in preparation for starting school.
